NEW YORK, NY- Today, New York State Senate Co-Leader Jeff Klein, Senate Labor Committee Chairwoman Diane Savino, and Assemblyman Steven Otis celebrated the signing of a sweeping new child labor law that promises to end widespread exploitation of underage models in New York’s fashion industry. Until today, minors in New York's fashion industry were forced to work without the protections of the state's child labor laws. But under a new law signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo late on Monday night, children in the fashion and modeling industries will now be provided the same protections afforded other young performers.

ADDABBO’S JOB FAIR IN GLENDALE DRAWS OVER 1,000 JOB SEEKERS

Queens, NY, October 21, 2013 –  NYS Senator Joe Addabbo (D-Queens) held his 8th Job Fair at Glendale’s Atlas Park Mall last Friday, October 18. Over 100 vendors offered roughly 1200 job opportunities to the attendees. The senator is planning another Job Fair for Spring 2014.

JAMAICA, NY - New York State Senator James Sanders Jr. announced today that he will host a jobs fair for the 10th Senatorial community on Saturday, October 19th from 10am to 3pm at the Police Athletic League on 116-25 Guy R Brewer Blvd. Jamaica, N.Y. 

Queens residents will have an opportunity to find jobs with local area businesses. Employers such as the New York Cosmos, Millennium Development, the New York Police Department, DeVry University, and others will offer both entry-level and advanced positions. Some employers will provide on-site interviews and fill job openings on the spot.

RITCHIE UNVEILS PLANS FOR ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY WINE TRAIL

Legislation To Spotlight Lisbon, Black Lake And Winthrop Wineries

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced plans to introduce legislation in January to establish a St. Lawrence County Wine Trail to help put local winemakers and vineyards on the map, boost local businesses and create jobs in the North Country.

“St. Lawrence County can now proudly say that it has three outstanding local wine producers in Lisbon, Black Lake and Winthrop,” said Senator Ritchie. “Unfortunately, a lot of people have yet to discover River Myst, Bella Brooke and High Peaks wineries. My legislation will literally put these three local businesses on the map. Just as importantly, it will create a new county-wide tourist destination that will provide new business and employment opportunities for neighboring restaurants, stores and attractions.”

RITCHIE TOURS REENERGY BLACK RIVER

State Senator Patty Ritchie toured ReEnergy Black River Tuesday, a former coal burning plant that was recently converted to a biomass facility.

Located on Fort Drum, ReEngery Black River produces approximately 422,000 net MWh of electricity each year, which is enough to supply the power needs of about 55,000 homes.

RITCHIE ANNOUNCES NEARLY $1,000,000 IN FUNDING TO GET PEOPLE BACK TO WORK, PROMOTE OUTDOOR RECREATION IN OSWEGO COUNTY

$960,000 Project Includes Removing Abandoned Railroad Bridge, Maintaining Snowmobile Trail

State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced she has obtained $960,000 in funding for a key project that will create jobs in Oswego County and support the region’s outdoor recreation industry. 

The project is slated to include the removal of an abandoned New York Central Railroad bridge on Rt. 13 and maintenance of the snowmobile trail in the town of Williamstown.

“Putting people back to work by investing in our roads and transportation system is critical to our long term economic development efforts to revive Central New York’s economy,” said Senator Ritchie. “By moving these long-delayed projects onto the fast track our region can improve safety and help improve our important transportation corridors.”

“A recent economic study by researchers at SUNY Potsdam showed the snowmobiling industry contributes about $700 million to our state’s economy,” Senator Ritchie said. “By maintaining our extensive trail system we keep Oswego County as a world class tourism destination that means jobs and economic growth to our stores, restaurants and hotels.”

RITCHIE CROSSES THE BORDER TO FIND WAYS TO STRENGTHEN TIES AND GROW NORTH COUNTRY ECONOMY

Building Ties with our Neighbor as a Way to Create Jobs Back Home

State Senator Patty Ritchie took her International Border Legislative Caucus initiative on the road Friday, and travelled to Brockville, Ontario, to discuss tourism, economic development and cultural opportunities with Canada’s leaders.

Senator Ritchie met with Canadian federal and provincial representatives who are members of the Caucus she co-founded in 2011 with Senator Joe Griffo, at the shorefront Bud’s on the Bay restaurant in downtown Brockville, for a far-ranging discussion that included topics like promoting locally produced wines and agricultural products,  fishing and outdoor opportunities, and finding solutions to extended wait times at border check points.

In addition to Senator Ritchie, participants at the meeting included Canadian Senator Robert Runciman, who is the Canadian co-chair of the Caucus; Gordon Brown, a member of Canada’s Parliament, from Brockville, Steve Clark, a member of Ontario’s Provincial Parliament, representing Leeds-Grenville, Clayton Supervisor Justin Taylor, Ogdensburg City Manager John Pinkerton and St. Lawrence County Legislator Joseph Lightfoot.
