Senator Bonacic is Recognized by the Dispute Resolution Center for CASA Funding Restoration

On Friday, September 27, 2013, Senator Bonacic attended a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) ceremony that recognized the successful restoration of essential CASA funding to the New York State 2013-2014 judiciary budget.  CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children, to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal and social service system. For many abused children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence in their lives.

Summary of 2013 Senate Legislative Action

 

2013-2014 NEW YORK STATE BUDGET

 

The New York State Senate approved the 2013-14 state budget that delivers on priorities outlined by the Senate Republican Conference to provide much-needed tax relief for middle-class families, help businesses create jobs, and, for the third consecutive year, the budget keeps spending growth below two percent, which is consistent with the local spending cap that applies to school districts and local governments.  It was also the third consecutive budget approved prior to the April 1 deadline.

Senator Bonacic's Bill to Counter "Paper Terrorism" Passes the Senate

Senator Bonacic speaks on the floor about his bill (S4042) to counter "paper terrorism," which is when false financing statements are filed against public officials in retaliation for carrying out their public duties. The bill passed the Senate 60-0. The bill will now be sent to the Assembly for consideration.
