Senate bill Signed into law which Provides for the Construction of Facilities   for Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps

Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) announced a new amendment (S. 8060) to the public authorities law which provides new facilities for Broad Channel volunteers. Under the Senate’s new law, Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps are now permitted to proceed with construction of new capital facilities for their not-for-profit corporation. The bill is now currently in effect.

      The New York State Senate has passed legislation (S.7914) sponsored by Senator William T. Stachowski (D, Lake View) that would release the Armor Volunteer Fire Company in Hamburg from the requirement that states that no more than forty-five percent of the company's members can be non-residents.

Health Benefits for Volunteer Firefighters Extended

ALBANY, N.Y.— The New York State Senate passed legislation sponsored by Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) that will extend cardiovascular health benefits for volunteer firefighter an additional five years.

“Our volunteer firefighters provide an invaluable service to New York State and our individual communities,” said Senator Valesky. “We owe it to them to ensure they have adequate health coverage to continue to serve their communities.”

SENATE PASSES STACHOWSKI BILL REQUIRING MOTORISTS TO MOVE OVER FOR PARKED EMERGENCY VEHICLES

      Senator William T. Stachowski (D, Lake View), today announcedthat legislation (S.4647-B) he sponsored to protect law enforcement and emergency workers on the state’s highways has passed the New York State Senate.

      Named the "Ambrose-Searles Move Over Act," the legislation requires highway motorists to move over or slow down when approaching a parked authorized emergency vehicle whose emergency lights are flashing.

Senate Passes Volunteer Emergency Responder Employment Protection Bill

ALBANY, N.Y.— Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) applauded the State Senate’s passage of legislation that will protect volunteer emergency responders from being terminated from their paid employment for missing work time due to performing those duties. The bill passed with unanimous bipartisan support, which speaks to the strength of the bill.

"Legislation like this allows us to protect the jobs of our hardworking volunteer responders, so that they can continue to protect our communities," said Senator Valesky.

The Kauneonga Lake Fire Department celebrates its 90th Anniversary

On Saturday, May 15th, 2010 Senator Bonacic attended the annual dinner and officer installation for the Kauneonga Lake Fire Department at the Eagle's Nest, Bloominburg.  Senator Bonacic presented The Kauneonga Lake Fire Department with a New York State Senate Proclamation celebrating it's 90th Anniversary.
