Senator Bonacic Presents NYS Senate Certificate of Merit to Chief Tim Vogler, Liberty Fire Department

Senator John  Bonacic congratulated Chief Tim Vogler with a NYS Senate Certificate of Merit for his six years of service as an Assistant Chief, and then Chief of the Department.  Chief Vogler is currently a Sergeant with the Liberty Police Department.

Otsego County Mental Health Concerns Under The Microscope

ONEONTA, 04/17/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on a meeting he convened of local stakeholders to discuss the future of emergency psychiatric services in Otsego County and the surrounding region: 

“The decision by Bassett Medical center to terminate inpatient psychiatric services has wide-ranging consequences.  Today’s meeting of local stakeholders included a brief summary of what led to the decision, and more importantly, allowed for an open dialogue on actions to be taken to fill the pending treatment void.

Elmira, N.Y., April 10—As the nation observes National Volunteer Week this week,  State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats), Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) and Assemblyman Chris Friend (R,C,I-Big Flats) said today that they are continuing to sponsor legislation aimed at helping localities recruit and retain volunteer firefighters and other emergency services personnel.

Senator Hassell-Thompson’s statement regarding the two destructive fires in Mount Vernon

“Yesterday, our community witnessed the destruction of two homes due to separate fires.  Thankfully, there was no loss of life, but 27 people have now been displaced.  Currently, the American Red Cross and volunteers are assisting these residents and I am sure that all of us in Mount Vernon will work together to provide any additional help needed.  I would like to thank the Mount Vernon Firefighters for their quick responses and bravery.”

Senator Kevin Parker Calls for Support of Legislation to Improve Emergency Responses Involving ‘Emotionally Disturbed’

(Brooklyn, NY) –  Today, State Senator Kevin Parker stood in solidarity with Communities for Crisis Intervention Teams ( – a coalition of 50 behavioral health providers and concerned citizens, and Brooklyn Borough President and retired New York Police Department Captain, Eric Adams, on City Hall steps to urge the Governor and Mayor to support the creation of specially trained Crisis Intervention Teams (CITs). The proposed CIT training would enable the NYPD to better respond to the 100,000 ‘emotionally disturbed person’ (EDP) calls received annually.
