Sen. Foley is Joined by Community Leaders in an Effort to Increase Participation in 2010 Census

Civic leaders and activists from local communities in Suffolk County joined Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) as he called for increased participation in the U.S Census. The 2010 Census awareness event, which took place at the Brentwood Public Library, was centered around relaying the importance of Census participation and giving community members the tools necessary to educate their friends, family, and neighbors about the Census.

Removing Politics From The Role Of The State Police Superintendent, Mandating Accountability And Independence

To crack down on the dangerous misuse of the State Police force, State Senator Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) and Assembly Member Hakeem Jeffries (D-Brooklyn) unveiled sweeping reforms (S.7104/A.TBD) to the process by which the Superintendent of the State Police is nominated, confirmed, and carries out the responsibilities of the office. The legislation will require greater accountability, independence, and transparency in the operation of the State Police.

Senator Farley Reminds Constituents That Feb. 12th Is "Blue Friday"

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady)  welcomed law enforcement officials and staff from WGNA radio station to the Senate today for passage of his resolution recognizing as February 12th to be "Blue Friday" in New York State.

"The first year we started doing this was in 2005, and I worked with radio station WGNA in creating this official State day to salute fallen law enforcement officers, and to support the families of fallen officers," Senator Farley said.

Senator Valesky Joins Attorney General Andrew Cuomo in Announcing Arrests in CNY Narcotics Sweep

9/21/2009: Senator Huntley addresses 113th Precinct Community Council Meeting

Senator Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) was clearly at home as she spoke in an open forum at the invitation of the community and 113th precinct located at 167-02 Baisley Boulevard. During the meeting she briefly explained her role in the New York State Senate and discussed several initiatives she has been working on. Some of the following intiatives are increasing the number of adult homes for the mentally and physically disabled and launching a "Wednesday Night Speak" where she speaks to community members about their concerns.
