Vernon, Oneida County to Receive 27 Percent Increase in VLT Aid

UTICA – The village and town of Vernon and Oneida County will receive 27 percent more aid for being the host of video lottery terminal (VLT) facilities in 2014-15, Sen. Joseph A. Griffo announced.

MOSA Dissolution Clears Senate

ALBANY, 03/20/14 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I- Oneonta) today announced senate approval of legislation he sponsors, allowing the dissolution of the Montgomery, Otsego, Schoharie Solid Waste Authority (MOSA).  Senator Seward’s bill (S.6181) follows a home rule request from the three member counties and the authority.

Senator Griffo, Assemblyman Brindisi Announce Grants to Help Children's Advocacy Center and the Oneida County Sheriff's Office

Grants have purchased essential crime fighting equipment, including a patrol car and incident command equipment

Griffo, Steck introduce the Municipal Health Insurance Savings Act

ALBANY - Local governments have been dealing with skyrocketing health insurance costs for years. Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, R-Rome has introduced a bill (S6633) to allow municipalities such as towns, villages, and school districts to join county self-insured health plans as a way to drive down costs. This legislation would bring more members into a county’s self-insured plan and will spread the risk across a wider number of employees, reducing costs accordingly. The Assembly sponsor is Assemblyman Phil Steck, D-Colonie.

Senator Klein Launches Satellite Offices Across the Bronx and Westchester

January 9, 2014 – Starting Friday, January 10, 2014, Senator Klein will open satellite offices that will rotate weekly across various parts of Senator Klein’s district. Representatives from Senator Klein’s office will be at stationed locations, allowing for members of the community to have local access to casework assistance and information on community events. Satellite offices will be open from 9am to 5pm through March.

Senator Lee Zeldin Urges the Federal Government to Make Mastic Beach a Priority

MASTIC BEACH—In a letter to federal elected officials representing Mastic Beach, Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R,C,I- Shirley) joined other local elected officials today to ask for a project to be expedited to replenish sand dunes on Fire Island just south of the Village of Mastic Beach which were wiped away by Super Storm Sandy.

A copy of the letter, signed by Senator Zeldin, Assemblyman Edward Hennessey, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Edward Romaine, Brookhaven Town Councilman Dan Panico, Suffolk County Legislator Kate Browning, and Mastic Beach Mayor Bill Biondi is attached.

Larkin Bills Approved by Governor

Three pieces of legislation were signed into law by Governor Cuomo announced the bills’ sponsor, Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson).   Of the three bills, two were local legislation dealing with Orange County’s one percent sales tax extension and conveying land in the Thiells-Roseville Fire District.  The other piece of legislation dealt with requiring hospitals to screen newborns for congenital heart defects.

Statement by Senators Larkin and Tkaczyk Urging the Assembly to Reconvene and Pass Ulster County’s Sales Tax Legislation

Senators Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) and Cecilia Tkaczyk (D, Duanesburg) today called on the New York State Assembly to reconvene to pass legislation which would extend Ulster County’s additional 1% sales tax.  Failure by the Assembly to act will result in $26 million in lost revenue to the County, its towns and the City of Kingston.
