Greg Ball (R-Patterson) of the 40th Senate District visited Mount Kisco on Thursday and spoke passionately about trying to pass his veteran’s assistance bill that is currently on the floor. His bill, labeled S5381A/A1386A, is to make New York state create a state-owned cemetery in his senate district.

The 41st Annual Legislative Conference of the NYS Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators will convene on Friday, February 17th and conclude on Sunday, February 19th, 2012. The theme of this year’s conference is “Open Doors to Employment, Opens Doors to Empowerment."

Fallen Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy Honored By Town of Islip

Senator Owen H. Johnson joined with Islip Town officials on January 26, 2012 at the MacArthur Airport to honor fallen Navy SEAL Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy.  Lt. Murphy lost his life at age 29 during a bitter firefight with the Taliban in the mountains of Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

Lt. Michael P. Murphy’s parents, Dan and Maureen Murphy, and brother John Murphy of Patchogue, accepted the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award on Michael’s behalf.

The ceremony included remarks from Lt. Murphy’s family and Islip Town Supervisor Croci as well as a video that chronicled the mission and sacrifices of Lt. Murphy and his fellow Navy SEALS.

Senator Owen H. Johnson's Holiday Toy Drive Delivered Over A Thousand Toys to Children of Soldiers of the Fighting 69th!

Senator Owen H. Johnson's Holiday Toy Drive delivered over a thousand toys to children of soldiers of the Fighting 69th  Infantry Regiment.  The toys were collected for the children of the many soldiers who have returned home to Long Island and are suffering the hardships of this difficult economy.  Senator Johnson presented the gifts at the Fighting 69th  Infantry Regiment’s annual Christmas party at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Farmingdale on December 17, 2011.

Senator DeFrancisco's Cell Phones For Soldiers Collection Drive Continues

Please help us collect more Cell Phones for Soldiers.  My collection drive runs through the end of January.

Drop-off locations include: Great Northern Mall, ShoppingTown Mall, Solvay Library, Skaneateles Library, Liverpool Library, Onondaga County Public Library in Syracuse, Fairmount Library, the Student Center at Onondaga Community College and the Army ROTC Office at Syracuse University.

Additional drop-off sites: MATTYDALE Army Recruiting Station at 372 Northern Lights Plaza in North Syracuse, SYRACUSE Army Recruiting Station at 2949 Erie Blvd. in Syracuse, 800 State Office Building at 333 East Washington Street in Syracuse.

Gallivan Introduces Legislation to Create Wyoming County Veterans Memorial Highway

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R,C,I - 59th District) announced today that he has officially introduced legislation (S.6061) to designate a stretch of Rt. 20A as "Wyoming County Veterans Highway". The portion to be designated traverses 16 miles between the intersection of Rt. 20A and Rt. 98, in the Hamlet of Varysburg, and the intersection of Rt. 20A and Rt. 246 in the Town of Sheldon.

Trees for the Troops From Grossmans

On Friday, December 2nd, I had the privilege to kick off Trees for Troops weekend at Grossmans Garden and Home. Grossmans Garden & Home is partnering for a second year with the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation and FedEx to participate in the nationwide Trees for Troops Program. GGH is the only retail in Monroe Country to have a FedEx Trailer on site for the the weekend. After purchasing a tree, families may also load the newly donated tree directly on the truck (with the help of a Grossmans team member) to be given to a local military family. Imagine seeing the kids 'light up' and enjoy the opportunity to put that fresh tree on that huge truck!

DeFrancisco has started his collection drive for Cell Phones for Soldiers.  You can drop off your old cell phones at various collection sites throughout Onondaga County.   During a recent press conference, the Senator explained why the non-profit program is so important to soldiers and their families.

NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT CEREMONY AT CAMP SMITH

 

Cortlandt Manor , N.Y. – (11/30/2011) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C-Patterson) joined forty-five soldiers and their families at a deployment ceremony at Camp Smith this Sunday. Members of the 727th Military Police Law & Order Detachment left for Fort Bliss, Texas where they will train for overseas deployment.
