SENATOR GOLDEN TO HOST A FLAG DAY CONCERT TO HONOR AMERICA

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a member of the New York State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs, today is inviting local residents to celebrate Flag Day at a Concert on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in Marine Park, entrance at Fillmore Avenue and Marine Parkway.

The concert will feature performances by the Kings County American Legion Headquarters Band and others. The event will commemorate the United States Army’s 237th Birthday and the gathering will allow for a show of support for the men and women of the military.

Senate Passes Bill Waiving 24 Hour Waiting Period For Military Members to Get Marrie

    The New York State Senate today passed a bill (S.490), sponsored by Senator Joe Robach, that waives the 24-hour waiting period for military members to get married after receiving a marriage license. This would apply to military members who are scheduled for deployment in less than 30 days. “Given the sacrifice, coupled with the unique circumstances of active veterans, we feel this bill will better accommodate the requests of some of our brave men and women in the military with their personal and family lives,” said Senator Robach. “This is one small favor we can do to accommodate their time frame.”

Senator Owen H. Johnson Honors Sergeant First Class Robert E. Walsh Of The 69th Infantry

Senator Owen H. Johnson recently honored a local distinguished service member from the 69th Infantry to represent the 4th Senate district in the New York Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame.  Senator Johnson inducted Sergeant First Class John E. Walsh, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion of the 69th Infantry at a ceremony in Albany on May 22, 2012.  The Veterans’ Hall of Fame was established by the Senate in 2005 to honor and recognize outstanding service members, like Robert E. Walsh, whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed forces is complemented by their service to the community.

Senator Carlucci Hosts Veterans ThoughtRaiser in Pearl River to Spur Job Creation

PEARL RIVER, NY – Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Orange) today hosted his very first Veterans ThoughtRaiser, a policy focused roundtable geared towards generating real ideas and solutions to increase employment opportunities among our returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The theme of the Senator’s ThoughtRaiser – “Getting Our Vets Back to Work” – explored ways in which the federal and state government can actively partner together, streamline redundancy and encourage agency cooperation, and discuss a multitude of issues and bills currently being debated in the New York State legislature. The roundtable also explored ways in which businesses can take advantage of tax incentives for hiring returning veterans.

Senators Flanagan And Marcellino Welcome Second Lieutenant Ciuffo From Northport To Senate

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) was joined by Senator Carl Marcellino (5th Assembly District) as he welcomed Second Lieutenant Phillip Cuiffo of Northport to the New York Senate Chamber.  Second Lieutenant Cuiffo was in Albany as the Senate honored Fort Drum and the United States Army 10th Mountain Division, which is the most deployed combat brigade in the United States Army.

Fort Drum is the largest United States Army post in the Northeastern United States, with 19,987 soldiers and 4,614 civilian workers.  The post is commanded by Major General Mark A. Millay and a dedicated group of officers.

During the visit, the Senate voted to proclaim May 23, 2012 as 10th Mountain Division and Fort Drum Day in the State of New York.

Senator Martins Wishes Commander Nolty a Safe and Speedy Return

Senator Jack M. Martins wished Commander Matthew Nolty a safe return during a farewell tribute at the Notre Dame School in New Hyde Park. Commander Nolty is being deployed to Afghanistan. He and his wife Caroline have three children - Brendan, Bridget and Diedre.

Senator Martins thanked Commander Nolty was his service and wished him a safe and speedy return.
