LaValle Names Two to NY State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame, Shelter Island 1st Lieutenant Joseph James Theinert and Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter of Sag Harbor to Receive Award Posthumously May 22.

Two East End war veterans will be posthumously inducted into the New York State Senate’s Veterans Hall of Fame on May 22 in an Albany ceremony it was announced today by New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle who nominated the pair -- US Army  1st Lieutenant Joseph J. Theinert  from Shelter Island and Marine Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter of Sag Harbor --  for the state honor.

“Joe Theinert and Jordan Haerter are true heroes who gave their lives to protecting the freedoms we treasure. They should be recognized and commended by our State and community,” said Senator LaValle.  “The New York State Veterans’ Hall of Fame is a tribute to these two fine young men that demonstrates our respect and gratitude for their patriotism and sacrifice.”

Senate Celebrates West Point Day

Rochester, NY - On Thursday, April 26th, the New York State Senate celebrated West Point Day. This annual celebration is held to honor all of those brave men and women who have served, and continue to serve our Country, both at home, and overseas. Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for their dedication and courage. Here I am pictured with retired Lieutenant Colonel Bill Larkin, who served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army, and is now my colleague in the Senate.

The New York State Legislature Honors West Point

 Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson), a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army, today hosted the sixtieth annual "West Point Day" at the New York State Capitol in Albany. 

 “I am deeply honored to represent the United States Military Academy at West Point in the New York State Senate,” said Senator Bill Larkin.  “The Academy has a long history of bringing out the best in individuals and the cadets visiting us today are shining examples of this successful tradition.  I applaud them for their dedication and commitment to our country and I thank them for their sacrifices,” said Larkin.

On April 26, the New York State Senate held West Point Day, which provided an opportunity for the Legislature to meet distinguished cadets and officers from the Military Academy and show appreciation for their service. State Passes Fiscally Responsible Budget That Respects Taxpayers

Budget Comes Early, Controls Spending and Holds The Line On Taxes

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan hailed the 2012 state budget today as lawmakers approved the spending plan ahead of the April 1st deadline, marking the second consecutive year New York State will enact an on-time budget.

“Passing a second on-time budget in as many years is indicative of the larger progress we’ve seen lately in Albany. Just as late budgets were once a symbol of dysfunction, on-time budgets are symbolic of continued progress,” the Senator said. “Even more important than passing an on-time budget, is that we passed a fiscally responsible budget that respects New York’s taxpayers and keeps the State moving forward.”

Peer to Peer Pilot Program Targeted to Assist Veterans Suffering from PTSD and TBI

Sayville, NY- Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) announced today that the New York State Senate, Assembly and Governor Andrew Cuomo, approved funding for the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program, a pilot program for four counties, including Suffolk County, to help returning veterans cope with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by offering a Peer to Peer mentoring program.

Governor Cuomo released the following announcement on March 27, 2012:

The Budget continues the Governor’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while creating jobs and strengthening communities across the state. It closes a multi-billion dollar deficit with no new taxes, fees or gimmicks, limits spending growth to two percent or below for the second year in a row, and launches the New York Works Task Force to invest billions of dollars to rebuild the state's roads, bridges, parks, and other infrastructure and create tens of thousands of jobs.

Mahopac, N.Y. – (3/16/12) – The students at Mahopac High School welcomed Senator Greg Ball’s (R, C – Patterson) traveling Veterans’ Wall of Fame on Friday afternoon in Mahopac, NY. The wall pays tribute to the twenty-seven veterans from throughout the Hudson Valley, including Mahopac resident Retired Corporal Josef Tschinkel. Each city, town and village within the Senator’s district was asked to nominate a Veteran and they were all honored at a Veterans’ Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony back in November

SENATE PASSES 2012-13 BUDGET RESOLUTION

Gallivan: “Senate Plan Cuts Taxes, Reforms Medicaid, Protects Seniors and Schools.”

The New York State Senate voted to approve its 2012-13 Senate Budget resolution, continuing its focus on state spending, job creation, and structural reform to government.

The Senate budget, at just under $132.5 billion, keeps the total state spending increase below two percent, and spends less than the Executive Budget. The budget closes a $2 billion budget deficit and builds on last year’s successes in putting the state’s fiscal house in order.
