Senators Carlucci, Zeldin and Ball and Westchester County Executive Astorino and Putnam County Executive Odell Announce the Expansion of the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling program To Westchester, Rockland and Putman Counties

Senator Lee M. Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) today joined Senators David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester), Chairman of the Senate Mental Health Committee and Greg Ball (R,C,I-Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee as well as Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino and Putman County Executive Mary Odell to announce funding for the expansion of the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling program to Westchester, Rockland and Putman Counties. The continuation and expansion of the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans Counseling program was approved as part of the 2013-14 state budget.

Felder Pays Tribute to Military Personnel at West Point Day in Albany

Senator Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) recently welcomed and paid tribute to men and women from the United States Military Academy at West Point at a reception on April 24, 2013 as part of the 61st Annual “West Point Day” held at the New York State Capitol in Albany.

The event was hosted by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson), a retired Lieutenant Colonel who served 23 years on active duty in the United States Army. Both the Senate and the Assembly adopted Legislative Resolutions to commemorate the Academy’s visit and to honor the establishment of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO ANNOUNCES EXPANSION OF PFC JOSEPH DWYER PTSD VETERANS COUNSELING PROGRAM TO NASSAU COUNTY

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently announced the creation of a peer to peer veterans counseling program in Nassau County to help veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Senator Fuschillo joined with Senator Dean Skelos, Senator Lee Zeldin, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano, and local veterans in announcing funding for the PFC Joseph Dwyer Program, which was included in the 2013-2014 state budget.

BUFFALO NEWS: Veterans get one-stop center to deal with needs

With the cutting of a red, white and blue ribbon, the Veterans One-stop Center of Western New York opened for business Monday in Buffalo.

The idea of having a single location with many services to help veterans was years in the making, according to wounded Vietnam War veteran Edward Simmons, who was given the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon at the center housed at 1280 Main St.

YELLOW RIBBONS: DOWNLOAD AND SHARE TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR FORT DRUM

Here in Central and Northern New York, we see yellow ribbons everywhere we go—on trees, bumper stickers, in businesses and prominently displayed outside homes.  For a very long time, yellow ribbons have stood as a symbol of support and remembrance of the brave men and women who serve.

Senator O'Brien to honor veterans in Albany

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today, Senator Ted O'Brien nominated two Rochester-area veterans, Lyle Dupra and W. Robert Nolan, to the State Senate's "Veterans Hall of Fame," honoring their distinguished service to their country.

"It is my distinct pleasure to honor these two men for their service to this country," Senator O'Brien said.  "I hope that this Hall of Fame and the stories of its honorees serve to remind us all of the sacrifices those in uniform have made and continue to make to keep this country strong."

RITCHIE DELIVERS NEARLY 120 FORT DRUM STORIES TO ARMY

State Senator Patty Ritchie appeared at a listening session on Fort Drum’s future and delivered nearly 120 statements of support for Fort Drum to Major General Stephen Townsend Thursday at a “Community Listening Session” held at Case Middle School in Watertown.

The listening session is one of 29 being held across the country, organized to capture community input for the Army’s top leaders to consider as part of the reduction and reorganization of its force structure.  Officials say Fort Drum could lose as many as 8,000 soldiers, or gain as many as 3,000.

Senator Tkaczyk Announces Veterans Credit for NY Civil Service Exams

State Senator Cecilia Tkaczyk today announced good news for Veterans -- the passage of legislation in the State Senate allowing veterans and disabled veterans credits to be added to civil service examination scores.

 “The military training our veterans receive provides valuable leadership skills and experiences that are highly desirable to any employer, including State and local governments,” Tkaczyk said. “So while this measure will help veterans, I believe it will also benefit our civil workforce.”

ADDABBO BILL THAT HELPS VETERANS AND POTENTIAL EMPLOYERS BETTER COMMUNICATE ABOUT JOB SKILLS GETS APPROVED BY VETERANS COMMITTEE

RITCHIE JOINS 10TH MOUNTAIN DIVISION COMMANDER TO HONOR VOLUNTEERS AT FORT DRUM CEREMONY

Volunteers Recognized for Nearly 185,000 Hours of Service

State Senator Patty Ritchie joined MG Stephen Townsend Thursday for Fort Drum’s annual Volunteer of the Year ceremony, where volunteers were honored for their 184,770 hours of service on the post last year. 

As the featured guest speaker, Senator Ritchie thanked the more than 50 volunteers being honored for their time and their service.
