Albany, N.Y., March 6—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) joined several of his Senate colleagues this week to call for increased state funding to support the expansion of a groundbreaking treatment program for military servicemen and servicewomen suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) -- a program known as the Research & Recognition Project.

Queens, NY (March 5, 2015) – State Senator Joseph Addabbo, Jr. recently joined his Senate colleagues in approving a bill (S.2207) he co-sponsors to create a new felony offense for criminals who desecrate cemetery plots and other burial places where veterans have been laid to rest after serving their country.

Senate Passes "Homes for Heroes" Program

Legislation will assist service-disabled veterans making necessary improvements to their homes

 

ALBANY - Today, the New York State Senate passed legislation (S.2316/A.3795) sponsored by Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I-Olean) that will assist veterans with physical challenges who need modifications to their homes in order to live independently.

 

The “Homes for Heroes” program will establish a fund to assist New York State’s veteran population so that they are able to live safely, comfortably and productively in the setting of their choice.

Senator Marc Panepinto Releases Statement on Passage of First Co-Sponsored Bill - Homes for Heroes

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Marc Panepinto released the following statement:

“I am humbled that my first co-sponsored bill passed in the State Senate creates the Homes for Heroes Program, which sets aside state grants for expanding affordable and accessible veteran housing in New York. Our disabled veterans should not have to return home and struggle with living comfortably, safely, or with dignity, due to inaccessible housing. This bill will ensure that whether it is through retrofitting their current home, or upgrading a new one, that will never be the case again.”

S.2316 (Homes for Heroes): Authorizes issues guidelines for granting contracts to disabled veterans eligible under the home for heroes program.

REMINDER: VOLUNTARY INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF FOR VETERANS REMEMBRANCE AND CEMETERY MAINTENANCE OPERATION FUND

Continuing his strong commitment to our veterans and their families, New York State Senator Mike Nozzolio today reminded individuals filing their 2014 New York State income taxes that they will have the opportunity to make a voluntary contribution to support veterans cemeteries in New York State. This fund is an important step in the process to designate specific areas in New York State for a State Veterans cemetery. This voluntary contribution can be made as a deduction from an individual’s tax refund or as an additional monetary donation on New York State tax returns. Contributions are 100% voluntary.

Murphy and Purple Heart Homes raise money for Korean War vet

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, NY - Senator Terrence Murphy, in collaboration with Eugene Parrotta, executive director of the newly created Purple Heart Homes New York Down State Chapter #1,  organized a fund raising dinner for 83-year old Korean War Veteran Stephen O'Loughlin of Yorktown to help make his home handicap accessible by installing railings to his front and back porch. The dinner was held on Friday night at the Yorktown Heights VFW Post 8328.

On the latest edition of "Your Voice," Senator Young discusses the importance of the Women's Equality Agenda, the first package of legislation taken up in the 2015 Session by the Senate. The package passed with unanimous bipartisan support and included eight key components aimed at protecting, promoting and empowering the women of New York State. Among the provisions that passed the Senate was a bill sponsored by Senator Young to protect victims of domestic violence.

Murphy searches for Westchester Korean War vets for monument
