Senator Sue Serino Helps Unveil Purple Heart Monument

CARMEL, NY—Senator Sue Serino (R, C, I—Hyde Park) joined countless community members in Carmel on Saturday, May 30, 2015, to help the Putnam County Joint Veterans Council and the Putnam County Veterans Service Agency unveil their much anticipated Purple Heart Monument. Putnam County was the first in New York to earn the distinction of ‘Purple Heart County’ and has erected a monument in the Veterans’ Park to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Senator Hoylman Presents “Veterans Hall of Fame” Award to WWII Veteran and Original Stuy Town Tenant Milton Nussdorf at Jewish War Veterans Annual Memorial Service

Senator Gianaris Inducts Roman Baca Into New York Veterans Hall of Fame

Senator Michael Gianaris honored Astoria resident and former Marine Sergeant Roman Baca as an inductee into the New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame. The Veteran’s Hall of Fame pays tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complemented by service to their communities. Mr. Baca, co-founder of Exit12 Dance Company, was officially inducted into the Veteran’s Hall of Fame at a May 19th ceremony in Albany.

 

“It is an honor and privilege to celebrate the service Roman has provided to our nation and to our local community,” said Senator Gianaris. “One of my most important jobs is to make sure our veterans have the necessary support to succeed upon returning home, and Roman has dedicated his life to helping fellow veterans in an innovative and creative way. I thank him for his service to our country and for his continued work on behalf of all those who keep our nation safe.”

Senator Valesky Hosts Community Resources Fair

State Senator David J. Valesky (D-Oneida) is hosting a Community Resources Fair on Thursday, June 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to raise awareness of the many community services available through various governmental and nonprofit organizations. The agencies listed below will have tables at the fair and provide important information on health care and health insurance, financial planning for college, emergency preparedness and fire safety, family planning, housing, voting, small business development, veterans services, and more, as well as offer giveaways. A representative from the Office of the State Comptroller will assist attendees with Unclaimed Funds searches.

Larkin Veterans’ Buyback Bill Passes Senate

 

Albany, NY - Senator Bill Larkin (R, C – Cornwall-On-Hudson) announced today that Senate Bill S4124 passed the Senate unanimously.  This legislation will allow all honorably discharged veterans who are members of a Public Employee Retirement System within New York State to purchase up to three years of service credit for time served in the military.

RITCHIE ‘CAREER PORTABILITY’ BILL FOR MILITARY SPOUSES GETS SENATE OK

NY is Only State Without a Law that Protects Careers of Soldiers’ Families

The State Senate today approved a bill, sponsored by Senator Patty Ritchie, to make it easier for spouses of active duty military to get approval to work in their chosen fields that require licensing or certification by the state.

“Right now, hundreds, if not thousands of military spouses at Fort Drum and other posts around New York are prohibited from working in jobs for which they are well-trained, even though they have valid licenses in their home states,” said Senator Ritchie.

“That’s because New York—alone among every other state—requires these professionals to undergo the same training, testing and certification process as if they were seeking a license for the very first time.

Dedication of the Disabled American Veterans Tunnel in the Town of Wallkill

Last Friday, a representative from my office attended the Town of Wallkill’s dedication of the Silver Lake-Scotchtown tunnel, which was renamed the Disabled American Veterans Tunnel. New signs are displayed at the entrances to the tunnel, which runs under railroad tracks on Silver Lake Scotchtown Road at the intersection of Mud Mills Road.

SENATOR MARTINS OBSERVES MEMORIAL DAY WITH FLORAL PARK COMMUNITY

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently joined with the Floral Park community in honoring our American heroes at the Village’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. The ceremony was sponsored by Floral Park American Legion Post 334 and the Village of Floral Park.

     Senator Martins marched in the parade with Mayor Tom Tweedy and the Village Board and served as the guest speaker at the ceremony, where he paid tribute to the over 40 million Americans who served in the military and the over 1.2 million who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.
