The New York State Senate today honored World War II veterans today by adopting  a resolution that commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Allied Army invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, a defining day in world history that marked the beginning of the liberation of Europe and the eventual end of World War II; as well as passing a package of legislation to benefit veterans, and men and women in active military duty.

Senator Ken LaValle Names Arma Andon to 2014 NY Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

May 2014 - State Senator Ken LaValle has announced that Arma Andon has been selected to be included in the 2014 NY Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.  “Arma E. Olean Native and World War II Hero Louis Zamperini Inducted into New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame

            ALBANY - In recognition of his incredible life of perseverance and survival, U.S. Army Air Forces Captain Louis Zamperini was recently inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame as Senator Catharine Young’s 2014 nominee.

            The New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame was created in 2005 to honor those veterans who have distinguished themselves in their valiant military service and continue to devote themselves to serving their neighbors, communities, and country - criteria Captain Zamperini exemplifies.

Seward Bill Part Of Senate Package To Aid NY Veterans

ALBANY, 06/02/14 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today announced senate passage of a package of legislation to provide New York’s military veterans with tax relief, expanded benefits, and special honors.  A bill sponsored by Senator Seward (S.3572A) that would exempt veterans organizations from paying taxes on heating fuel was part of the package.

“Veterans groups do a great deal for their members and communities, removing a layer of bureaucracy and saving them a few dollars is the least we can do,” said Senator Seward.  “My bill would provide veterans groups with the same exemption that is given to religious and charitable organizations.”

Giving our Veterans the Peer Support They Need and Deserve: A Column by Senator Lee Zeldin

After the last mile of the parades have been walked and the barbeque flames have been extinguished—the flame of devotion to our veterans must be further extended. In honoring our veterans, those who have sacrificed the entirety of their lives to protect our own, it is critical that we carry the spirit of this past weekend with us far beyond a short holiday.

Memorial Day is about celebrating and remembering those who have lost their lives in service to our great nation. Words will never be enough to say thank you.

Yet, what better way to honor those we have lost than to ensure that their brothers and sisters in arms are treated with the highest caliber of respect and are afforded the very best care upon their return?

Veteran of Distinction Awards Celebration

Senator Boyle joined with his fellow Senators for the Veteran’s Hall of Fame Celebration. Each year in Albany legislators take time to recognize outstanding Veterans from communities across the State. This year’s honoree from the Fourth Senate District was former Navy Petty Officer Third Class Armen Enkababian who served our country from 1966 to 1970. Petty Officer Enkababian received numerous awards and citations from the United States Navy in recognition of his outstanding service. Armen continues to serve our country through community involvement. Armen is known for his honesty, integrity and loyalty. He serves as post commander of the American Legion Post 94. He is also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Vietnam Veterans of America.

Town of Greece Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

I joined my colleagues in government and the Greece community at the annual Town of Greece Memorial Day parade and ceremony. This is a great tradition that is attended by so many local veterans, organizations and residents. Thanks to all who participated in the parade and to everyone who came to the ceremony afterwards to honor all those who have died for our country.
