Town of Greece Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

I joined my colleagues in government and the Greece community at the annual Town of Greece Memorial Day parade and ceremony. This is a great tradition that is attended by so many local veterans, organizations and residents. Thanks to all who participated in the parade and to everyone who came to the ceremony afterwards to honor all those who have died for our country.

Greece Post 468 Memorial Day Remembrance

On Memorial Day, I joined members of the Greece Post 468 American Legion at their remembrance ceremony. This was a moving tribute that paid homage to those who died in the name freedom and liberty. We're so fortunate to have a active and dedicated American Legion Post in the Town of Greece.

Senator Lee Zeldin Honors VFW State Commander Michael Pascal

ALBANY—On March 20, 2014, Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I—Shirley) inducted a local hero into the NYS Senate's Veterans Hall of Fame: VFW State Commander Michael Pascal.

A resident of Suffolk County for the past 41 years, Commander Pascal served the U.S. Army from 1966 thru 1969. He honorably served in the Vietnam War and his passion for serving his fellow veterans has stayed with him far beyond his years of service in uniform.

“Please take a minute to join me in thanking those, like Commander Pascal, who have sacrificed their lives-on and off the battlefield-in defense of our nation, our Constitution, and our freedoms,” said Senator Zeldin. “Thank you to all of our servicemen and women for your selfless commitment.”

ADDABBO NAMES SERPHIN MALTESE TO NYS SENATE VETERANS HALL OF FAME

Queens, NY (May 27, 2014) – Before he was a 10-term State Senator and before he worked as an attorney, Serphin Maltese was a member of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. took the opportunity to honor Maltese and selected him to be enrolled in the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

Early Monday morning, before the barbecues were fired up and people welcomed the unofficial start of summer, tears were shed on the lawn of Veterans Memorial field and later at Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam as the community honored the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Local and state officials, veterans, residents and others first gathered before the memorial at Veterans Field first to remember fallen soldiers in wars past and present, like U.S Army Sgt. Shawn Michael Farrell II, of Accord, who died April 28, 2014, of wounds sustained during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan when forces attacked his unit with small-arms fire. He was 24 years old.

OLEAN – Nearly 70 years after the liberation of France, two Olean veterans have received awards from the French Republic for their part in the defeat of Nazi Germany.

During a ceremony at her office in Olean on Armed Forces Day, May 17, Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – Olean) joined Mr. Pascal Soares, Honorary French Consul of New York, in presenting medals to U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class John P. Capito and U.S. Army Staff Sgt. William Zuckerman in recognition of their outstanding service.

Armed Forces Day is an annual holiday in which citizens come together to recognize and thank America’s soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines for their service to our country.

Neider inducted into NYS Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame

Honored by Ranzenhofer at State Capitol ceremony

 

Albany, N.Y. – United States Army Specialist 5th Class James B. Neider has been selected – by State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer – as a New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame Honoree for the 61st District for his gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces and service to the community.

 

Neider volunteered to serve in 1968 after receiving a Bachelor degree in Education.  He served in Germany with the 3rd Armored Division’s 503rd Military Police Company.

Senator Bonacic Congratulates Walter Kittle, 2014 NYS Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame Inductee

Senator Bonacic congratulates Walter Kittle on his induction into the NYS Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame at a ceremony recently held in Albany. Kittle served in the Navy, Army National Guard and Air National Guard and volunteered for tours in Iraq and Afghanistan before retiring in 2013 from 30 plus years in military service. Here, Kittle is being awarded a NYS Certificate of Recognition by the Senator.
