O'Mara, Palmesano continue to urge support for a second RenovatingHope project locally ~ Less than one week to go in online voting

Bath, N.Y., March 7—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) today urged area residents to support the veterans assistance organization RenovatingHope by voting daily online in the The Home Depot Foundation’s 2nd annual “Aprons in Action” contest.

Department of Financial Services to Speek Resolution of Insurance Claims in Areas Affected by SANDY

The NYS Department of Financial Services (DFS) is setting new rules to speed the processing of insurance claims in areas affected by Storm Sandy. The new regulation reduces the amount of time an insurer can delay its decision on a claim, and requires insurers to report to the Department on how many claims it is delaying and the reasons for the delays.

Senator Young Presents Medals to Two Local Veterans

Dorothy Button and Thomas Threadgill were honored for their dedicated service

SALAMANCA – Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I- Olean) recently awarded service medals to two distinguished veterans at the Cattaraugus County American Legion Family Testimonial Dinner held at Salamanca American Legion Post #535. Yeoman First Class Dorothy Button received the Medal for Merit, which is based on a U.S. Coast Guard Achievement Medal. Technical Sergeant Thomas Threadgill was given the New York State Medal for Merit, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and a special commemorative medal from the Taiwanese government.

Senator Klein and Miss USA Nana Meriwether Host 18th Annual “Valentines for Veterans” Event

BRONX, NY - Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) pictured above with Miss USA 2012 Nana Meriwether and Kelli Faugnan, a fourth grader from PS 83, giving gift bags and valentines to veteran patients from the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. Senator Klein and Ms. Meriwether hosted “Valentines for Veterans” at the Center. After the program, Senator Klein, Ms. Meriwether and children from the PS 83 Children’s Choir helped distribute valentines and gift bags given by children at 25 schools across the Bronx.

SENATOR CARLUCCI, STRAWTOWN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS PRESENT VALENTINES FOR VETERANS

SUFFERN, NY - Surrounded by scores of local veterans, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today hosted his third annual Valentines for Veterans celebration at the VFW Ramapo Post 2973 in Suffern.  The event is part of a national initiative that organizes local communities to send thousands of good wishes to veterans and service members each year. 

This year, Senator Carlucci hosted five students from Strawtown Elementary School to read and present over 500 of their handcrafted valentines and artwork to the more than 50 veterans who attended a special Veterans Advisory Committee meeting.  The group also led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

O'Mara supporting renewed push for 'Hire-a-Vet' tax credit

Albany, N.Y., January 31—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) today said that he will seek to co-sponsor and strongly support legislation in the Senate to provide a tax credit to state businesses that hire veterans returning home from military service.

O’Mara highlighted federal Bureau of Labor statistics from 2012 showing that unemployment reached a staggering 20 percent for veterans under the age of 30 who have recently returned home from Iraq and Afghanistan.  Moreover, statistics show that a significant number of recently returned veterans report service-connected disabilities.
