SENATOR FUSCHILLO JOINS WITH MERRICK COMMUNITY IN WELCOMING HOME CORPORAL KEVIN VAUGHAN

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with the Merrick community in welcoming home one of its local heroes, Marine Corps Corporal Kevin Vaughan.

     Corporal Vaughan, a 2007 graduate of Mepham High School, was serving his second tour of duty in Afghanistan when he was wounded by a roadside bomb. He lost his left leg and has spent the last several months at Walter Reed Hospital undergoing rehabilitation and physical therapy.

Senator Lee Zeldin and Assemblyman Dean Murray Unveil The New York State Senate Veteran Hall of Fame Memorial Honoring Lt. Michael Murphy

Medford, NY- Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) and Assemblyman Dean Murray (R, C- East Patchogue) presented The New York State Senate Veteran Hall of Fame Memorial in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael Murphy to the Patchogue-Medford High School this past Thursday, March 8, 2012. Lt. Murphy, a Navy SEAL who gave his life while fighting in Afghanistan, was also a graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School.

Senate Republicans Announce 2012 NEW JOBS-NY Job Creation Plan

Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos and members of the Senate Republican Conference today announced details of the 2012 NEW JOBS-NY Job Creation Plan that includes significant tax relief to encourage the creation of new private sector jobs, measures to ensure fiscal responsibility and control state spending, as well as other reforms and incentives to make New York more economically competitive.  The plan will be included in the Senate budget resolution to be acted on next week.

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TO PROTECT GRAVES OF CIVIL WAR VETERANS  The New York State Senate passed legislation that would prohibit the unauthorized sale of veteran cemetery markers that are over 75 years old, and would create the new crime of desecration of a veteran cemetery plot, grave or burial place.  These bills continue the Senate’s commitment to maintain the dignity of veterans’ cemeteries and commemorative property.The Senate passed a bill (S.1504), sponsored by Senator William Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson), that would prohibit the unauthorized sale of veteran’s commemorative cemetery markers, flag holders, monuments, statues or other physical memorabilia that are over 75 years old.

Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department 2.11.12

Senator Catharine Young (R,C,I – 57th District) recognized Pete Dawson (left) for his 50 years of service to the Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department at the department’s annual banquet on February 11. Mr. Dawson is a past chief of the department and currently serves as the department's Fire Chaplain. His wife, Linda Dawson (right), attended the event, which was held at the Lakewood Fire Department Training Grounds. Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department is one 42 fire departments serving Chautauqua County.

Michael Bowen (right), American Legion Auxiliary Department of New York President Ann Geer, and Sons of the American Legion Detachment of New York Commander Greg "Doc" K. Gibbs at the Cattaraugus County American Legion's Testimonial Dinner on Saturday, February 4 at the Randolph American Legion Post 181 in Randolph.
