Ed Hotchkiss, Grand Marshall of the 2011 Babylon Village Veterans’ Day Parade,  joined Senator Owen H. Stanley Maziarz earns prestigious French honor for WWII service

On November 11, I had the distinct honor of accompanying one of my constituents, Stanley Maziarz of North Tonawanda (no relation), to New York City where he was presented with a distinguished award for his military service.  Stanley, a hero of World War II, was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the President of the French Republic, Mr. Nicholas Sarkozy.  This award signifies the French people’s deep appreciation for Stanley’s contribution to the liberation of France during World War II.

Senator Flanagan And Congressman Bishop Join Together To Help Long Island Veterans

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) and Congressman Timothy Bishop (1st Congressional District) recently joined Long Island State Veterans Home (LISVH) Executive Director Fred S. Sganga and Stony Brook University President Samuel Stanley to formally announce a joint effort between the New York State Senate, the Long Island Congressional Delegation and the Veterans Administration that will deliver $16 million in funding for facility upgrades at the Home.

Governor Cuomo Announces Affordable Housing Initiatives for Veterans

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced three new initiatives to help veterans obtain affordable housing upon their return to New York State. The Governor is committing $25 million to housing assistance for veterans, giving veterans preference in Section 8 housing, and expanding the state's mortgage assistance program to include active duty service members.

"We called upon our young men and women to serve after September 11, and now we must do all that we can to help them as they return home," Governor Cuomo said. "These programs will aid our veterans as they transition back to civilian life and give them the assistance they need to obtain stable and affordable housing in New York."

Celebrating Veterans Day in Rochester

Earlier on this Veterans Day, Senator Robach had the privilege to speak at, and take part in, a ceremony at The Blue Cross Arena at Rochester War Memorial. Senator Robach was honored to present the wreath on behalf of the Town of Greece with Supervisor John Auberger. It was great to meet so many of our veterans that live in our community. Thank you again to all the men and women who have served our country, and continue to do so today.

SENATOR GOLDEN HOSTS 9TH ANNUAL VETERANS DAY BREAKFAST

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) this morning hosted his ninth annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast, honoring the men and women who served our country.

The event, which had an attendance of over 150 veterans from WWII through Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, including five Wounded Warriors who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, is the Senator’s way to thank all those who sacrificed for our freedoms.

Honoring Our Veterans on Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day to honor all veterans for their service to our country. It is observed on Nocember 11, the aniversary of the Armistince that signified the end of World War I, which formally ended at the 11th hour of the11th day of the 11th month in 1918.

Im 1938, Congress passed an act that made the 11th day of each year a legal holiday, known as Armistice Day." On October 8, 1938, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Veterans Day Proclamation, stating, "In order to insure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veterans' organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hands in the common purpose."

Senator Seward Salutes New York State Veterans

On Veterans Day, Americans should pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by our veterans.  Whether combat veterans or Cold War veterans, all who served need to be given proper praise for a job well done.  Our veterans have faced hardships that a non-veteran could never fully understand.  Some have faced death in defending our nation’s freedom.  Veterans possess the core American values of loyalty, duty, respect, honor, selfless service, personal courage and integrity.
