The New York State Senate today gave final legislative approval to two measures that offer additional buffers and restrictions for protests or demonstrations seeking to disrupt military funerals, burials or memorial services. The bills, sponsored by Senators Lee Zeldin (R-C-I, Shirley) and Joseph Griffo (R-C, Rome), balance the constitutional right of free speech with the ability of families to respectfully mourn the individuals who gave their lives in service to our country.

6/14/2011: Veteran's Hall of Fame Honoree Jackie L. Wilson

Sergeant Major Jackie L. Wilson Award: Veterans' Hall of Fame Year: 2011 District: District 10 Sergeant Major Jackie L. Wilson had a distinguished 24 year career in the United States Army Reserve. During his service, Mr. Jackson led his men on and off the battlefield. He served active duty in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm 1990-1991, and was also called to active duty for Freedom Iraq but was unable to be mobilized due to his health. Mr. Wilson was forced to retire due to medical reasons.During his illustrious service to the United States Army Reserve, Mr.

United States Army Commissioned Second Lieutenant and City of Tonawanda Mayor Ronald J. Pilozzi has been selected – by State Senator Michael H. Ranzenhofer – as a New York State Veterans Hall of Fame Honoree for his gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces and service to the community. 

Pilozzi served as a Commissioned Second Lietuenant in U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 after joining ROTC at Canisius College. During that time, he served as an Artillery Officer with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam and then as an Executive Officer of the 81st Artillery in West Germany.

“How To Care For and Honor The Flag” Information Now Available At Gallivan’s Office

Senator Patrick M. Gallivan announced today that his office will be honoring Flag Day and National Flag Week by providing the public with valuable information regarding the history of Old Glory and guidelines for its proper handling.

“Flag Day and National Flag Week is a special time of the year when all Americans try to do something special to honor the flag and all it represents. My office will be offering information so that everyone knows the proper time to display the flag, when it’s appropriate to salute it, and how to respectfully dispose of worn flags,” the Senator said.

SENATOR GOLDEN NAMES U.S. MARINE CORPORAL GEORGE BROADHEAD TO STATE SENATE VETERANS HALL OF FAME

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a member of the State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Military and Veteran Affairs, this week named Corporal George Broadhead of the United States Marines to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

Corporal Broadhead, of Gerritsen Beach, served during the Korean War. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Naval Unit Citation, and campaign awards.

Senator Farley Names Schenectady Veterans Advocate to State Hall of Fame

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) is pleased to announce James A. Wilson of Schenectady was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Flag Day, June 14th, in Albany.
