Governor Andrew Cuomo's Private Plane

You should know that this week, while New York Governor Andrew Cuomo jetted off with his staff in a private plane to pander to leaders in Santo Domingo and Puerto Rico, the Dominican Hispanic elected officials were not given the same courteous treatment as his staff and had to travel on a commercial plane. The same is true for the Puerto Rican Hispanic elected officials traveling to Puerto Rico from New York to support Governor Andrew Cuomo. No private plane - they all had to fly commercial as Cuomo and his staff traveled like royalty in his private plane.

The Bryant Pond Road Bridge Crossing Over Taconic Parkway to be Renamed “Disabled American Veterans Memorial Bridge” 

Senator Greg Ball and Assemblywoman Sandy Galef were joined today by members of the Northern Westchester-Putnam Disabled American Veterans Chapter #137 to celebrate the dedication of the “Disabled American Veterans Memorial Bridge” on the Taconic State Parkway.

SENATOR GREG BALL HELPS CUTS RIBBON FOR NEW INCLUSIVE YORKTOWN PLAYGROUNDS

Yorktown, N.Y. – 10/17/2014 – Senator Greg Ball (R, C, I – Patterson) joined students, teachers and administration from Thomas Jefferson Elementary School to celebrate the opening of a new “inclusive” playground at the school on Gomer Street in Yorktown on Friday.

Senator Greg Ball successfully secured $60,000 in state aid to help make the playground possible.

Senator Flanagan Secures Funding For East Northport Library

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) announced that his office has secured $10,000 in state funding as part of the 2014-15 State budget for the Northport-East Northport Library.  The funding will help offset the cost of installing new carpeting in the children’s room of the East Northport branch of the library.

SENATOR GOLDEN SEEKS STATE LAW TO AUTHORIZE ACCESS TO DECEDENT’S E-MAIL

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden, the Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Science, Technology, Incubation and Entrepreneurship, today is announcing that he has introduced legislation that will allow the email of a person who has passed away to be accessed by the executor of their estate.

 

The bill, S. 6176, has been introduced in the wake of growing concerns as more and more New Yorkers decide to handle their bills and finances electronically. As a result, individuals designated to settle an estate upon a person’s passing, require the information contained in new e-mail messages, and documents stored in email folders.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES NEW PORT WASHINGTON POLICE CHIEF

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District) recently attended the swearing-in ceremony for new Port Washington Police District Chief James Salerno. Senator Martins congratulated Chief Salerno and wished him the very best for success.

     Chief Salerno has been serving the community as a member of the Port Washington Police District for nearly 30 years, the last ten as an Assistant Chief to now-retired Chief William Kilfoil. Chief Salerno is the 10th Police Chief in the District’s history.

EBOLA PREPAREDNESS PLAN FOR NEW YORK STATE

Today, New York State's leadership along with regional hospital and healthcare representatives outlined the State's plans for Ebola preparedness and assured New Yorkers that the State is taking every precaution to protect their health and safety. Eight hospitals statewide have been designated to treat potential patients with Ebola.

The Legal Project Honors Senator Farley

The Legal Project honored State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) on Oct. 15th for his support of The Legal Project's Domestic Violence and Katheryn D. Katz Fellowship Programs.

With Senator Farley are Senator Kathy Marchione and Channel 10’s Lydia Kulbida. Senator Kathy Marchione was also honored at the luncheon and Lydia Kulbida was Mistress of Ceremonies.

New York Daily News: Queens lawmaker files FAA complaint after airplane noise hits ear-splitting levels

State Sen. Tony Avella said the Port Authority and Federal Aviation Administration need to change airplanes and routes to ease excessive noise over parts of Queens. The sound of some recent flights exceeded 90 decibels.

78th Annual NYS NAACP Conference

(Tarrytown - October 11th) Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins addressed the 78th Annual NYS NAACP Conference and spoke of the organization's history of fighting against racial discrimination and for equal rights, a struggle that continues today 50 years after the Civil Rights Act became law in this country. Senator Stewart-Cousins also greeted some of the young delegates to the convention as well as its leaders.

Senator Farley Salutes Local Teen's Volunteer Efforts

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of presenting the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to Clifton Park’s Katie Manuel on October 7th for her community service and volunteer achievements. Miss Manuel recently received the bronze President’s Volunteer Service Award. The award program encourages youth to perform community service. Miss Manuel volunteered over 200 hours in 2013. She also has her junior black belt in Tae Kown Do, plays classical violin, and is a competitive tap dancer. She is also a New York State Ambassador Pre-Teen.

SENATOR MARTINS CONGRATULATES MANHASSET SCOUT ON COMPLETING EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT BENEFITTING SCIENCE MUSEUM OF LONG ISLAND

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-7th Senate District, pictured fourth left) recently congratulated Manhasset resident Vincent Tomaselli on completing his Eagle Scout project to benefit the Science Museum of Long Island. Vincent is a member of Boy Scout Troop 71 and a junior at Manhasset High School. 

     Vincent’s Eagle Scout project was to totally refurbish the unfinished attic of the Museum’s barn so that it could be repurposed and used as the museum’s new anthropology lab. The project took approximately six months of work to complete.

I was pleased to join the Greece Chamber of Commerce (NY) for its annual Race on the Ridge 5k and serve as the Honorary Chairperson for this year's race. Proceeds from the race benefited the Greece Chamber Charitable Foundation and the Greece Performing Arts Society. Thanks to all of the runners for their participation and to all of the volunteers for their hard work!
