KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WORKS IN SENATOR FUSCHILLO’S OFFICE AS PART OF KENNEDY’S “SENIOR EXPERIENCE” PROGRAM

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick, pictured right) recently welcomed Kennedy High School Senior, and Merrick resident, Adam Samowitz (pictured left) to spend several weeks working in his district office as part of Kennedy’s “Senior Experience” program.

     Kennedy’s “Senior Experience” program is a progressive, hands-on program that allows graduating seniors to work with professionals in a field of their choice. During the course of the program, students learn about the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges in the chosen field, while gaining knowledge of the particular requirements involved.

Senator Phil Boyle teamed up with the Bay Shore Boy Scout Troop 43 to host a food drive at the Shoprite of Bay Shore.  The non- perishable food items donated at the event will be distributed to those in need by Long Island Cares, Inc.

(East Harlem, NY)- Senator Serrano, Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, and the East Harlem Immigrant Service Network sponsored “Bridging the Gap: Expanding the Dialogue,” an LGBT stigma awareness event. This important roundtable discussion was centered on the issues surrounding sexuality and gender identity in El Barrio/East Harlem and the South Bronx.

Senator José M. Serrano Stands with the Community to Address the Recent Spike of Anti-LGBTQ Violence in New York City

(Bronx, NY) – Senator José M. Serrano stood with Bronx Borough President Ruben Díaz, other elected officials, and community members at a press conference hosted by the Bronx LGBTQ Center, to address the recent and disturbing spike in the number of incidents of anti-LGBTQ hate violence that have been committed in NYC.“The LGBT community consists of vibrant, talented and hardworking individuals who are our neighbors, our friends, and our family members,” said Senator Serrano. "These individuals should be celebrated and respected like all members of our community. It is extremely unfortunate that violent hate crimes targeting the LGBT community still occur," continued Serrano.

Senator Carlucci Donates Supplies to Hi-Tor Animal Care Center for First Annual "Sit, Stay, Give" Drive

Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) today visited the Hi-Tor Animal Care Center to provide a charitable contribution of over 100 items to pets in need, including toys, food, cleaning supplies, blankets, and more.  He was greeted by dedicated Hi-Tor staff personnel, enthusiastic animal lovers, and a plethora of cats and dogs awaiting their next loving, adopting owner.

“The response amount of support among animal lovers everywhere was truly incredible, and I look forward to working with Hi-Tor in the ways to help so many animals in need,” said Senator Carlucci.

SENATE APPROVES BILL TO STRENGTHEN DISTRACTED DRIVING PENALTIES FOR NEW DRIVERS

The New York State Senate today passed legislation cosponsored by Senator Andrew Lanza to increase the safety of roads and drivers by strengthening penalties for teens and other new drivers who text or talk on a cell phone while driving. The bill (S5656), which was submitted as a Governor’s program bill, requires the suspension of licenses for newly licensed drivers if they commit distracted driving offenses.
