STATEMENT BY SENATOR GOLDEN ON STATE SENATE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION PROHIBITING THE SALE OF HUMAN ORGANS AND BODY PARTS

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) has issued the following statement regarding the State Senate’s passage of legislation he sponsored, S. 2147A this afternoon that prohibits the sale and purchase of human organs, other than blood and ocular tissue:

Senator Golden stated, “Amid scandals involving the illegal buying, selling and distribution of human tissues by funeral homes and licensed biomedical companies, the State of New York needs to address this problem and create a ban that protects and respects both the deceased, and their families of our State.

SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LEANDRA’S LAW

The New York State Senate today passed legislation, sponsored by Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) to strengthen Leandra’s Law.  The legislation would ensure that offenders comply with the provision of the law requiring them to use ignition interlocks.

SENATE PASSES BILL TO KEEP VIOLENT REPEAT OFFENDERS IN PRISON

 

Measure Prompted by Murder of Utica Woman by Career Rapist on Parole

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to require certain violent felons to serve their maximum prison term if there is evidence that their release would pose an imminent threat to society. The bill (S.6020A), sponsored by Senator Joseph Griffo (R-C, Rome), would help protect the public by keeping repeat offenders off the streets and limit “good behavior” and other rewards from reducing the time spent in prison.

SENATOR GOLDEN CALLS ON THE ASSEMBLY TO TAKE THE BRAKES OFF OF HIT AND RUN BILL

Albany- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), in response to a tragic hit and run last evening on the streets of his Brooklyn district, is calling for the State Assembly to pass S2918/A3350, which would increase the penalties for drivers who leave the scene of an accident without stopping and/or reporting it from a Class A Misdemeanor to a Class E Felony.

Last evening, an hit and run happened in the Bay Ridge neighborhood of Senator Golden’s district, that claimed the life of a Brooklyn man. It was just yesterday afternoon that the New York State Senate approved S. 2918, introduced by Senator Marty Golden.
