Senator Rivera Hosted Black History Month Celebration, Honored Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson

Bronx, NY – State Senator Gustavo Rivera (D, WF – Bronx) hosted a Black History Month celebration in conjunction with St. Joseph Church on Saturday, February 25, 2012.  Working together with community partners such as St. Joseph Catholic Church and the South Bronx Job Corps Culinary Program, Senator Rivera hosted a celebration that included the honoring of State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, words from a guest speaker, comedian Baratunde Thurston, author of How to be Black, and performances by Nene Ali (spoken word), Aquila Knight, who sang the Black National Anthem and Warriors for Christ Praise & Worship Dance Ministry from Creston Avenue Baptist Church in the 33rd Senate District.

METROCARD VAN SCHEDULED TO STOP AT SENATOR GOLDEN'S OFFICE MONDAY

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is today announcing that the Metropolitan Transit Authority has scheduled the Metro Card Van to visit his Bay Ridge District Office, located at 7408-5th Avenue, on Monday, March 5, 2012 from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

The Metro Card Bus will enable the local residents to take care of all their Metro Card business at the Metro Card Bus, whether it's applying for or refilling a Reduced-Fare Metro Card, buying or refilling a regular Metro Card, or asking a Metro Card related question. Senator Golden assures residents that they will receive prompt and attentive service.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION HONORING NORTH BELLMORE EAGLE SCOUT

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring North Bellmore resident Matthew Murphy for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

     “Only a select few ever achieve what Matthew has; the rank of Eagle Scout. Matthew’s years of hard work, dedication to scouting, and community service make him more than worthy to hold scouting’s highest rank. I congratulate him on earning this honor and am pleased that his accomplishment was recognized by the New York State Senate,” said Senator Fuschillo.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HONOR EXTRAORDINARY BROOKLYN WOMEN IN CELEBRATION OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH

Brooklyn – As March is designated as “Women’s History Month”, State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today is announcing plans to host two events to honor outstanding women who have made a difference in our community.

 

Senator Golden will honor Mary Douglas of Gerritsen Beach Cares and Resurrection Church, Theresa Samuelson of the Gerritsen Beach Property Owners, Public School 277 Parent Teacher Association Co-Presidents Margaret Foti and Joan Marie Peterson, and Ioanna Giannopoulos of Hellenic Public Radio Kosmos FM. These women will be feted at a ceremony to be held this Thursday, March 1, 2012, starting at 7:00 p.m., at the Cort Club located at 2648 Gerritsen Avenue in Brooklyn.

SENATE PASSES FUSCHILLO RESOLUTION HONORING WANTAGH FIREFIGHTER FOR 60 YEARS OF SERVICE

     Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed a legislative resolution he sponsored honoring Wantagh Fire Department Commissioner and Ex-Chief Donald Snyder for his 60 years of service to the Wantagh community.

     “For the last 60 years, Donald Snyder has selflessly volunteered his time and energy to protect the residents of the Wantagh Fire District. His devoted service to the community deserves our admiration, respect, and gratitude. I’m pleased that the Senate passed this resolution to recognize his long and dedicated service to the Wantagh Fire Department and the community,” said Senator Fuschillo.
