             Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently thanked Hauppauge resident Timothy Curran for volunteering his time as an intern in his district office.  Curran, a senior this coming fall at Hauppauge High School, has been working in Senator Flanagan’s office in order to gain some experience in government before heading to college next year.

SUNY2020 Maintains Affordability of SUNY System, Authorizes Millions in Capital Funding That Will Create Jobs and Grow Economy, Re-Establishes SUNY & CUNY as Economic Engines

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle (R, C, I – Port Jefferson), Chairman of the New York State Senate’s Higher Education Committee  lauded New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo for his leadership in recognizing that SUNY is an intricate part of New York State’s economic development strategy as landmark SUNY2020 legislation was signed into law today.

Senator LaValle said that New York State Senator and Majority Leader Dean Skelos made SUNY and the state’s students a top priority and he should be commended for partnering with the Governor and “ensuring we had a positive result.” Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver also played a pivotal role, LaValle said, in shaping the important new law.

Governor Signs NYSUNY 2020 Legislation

(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. ANIMAL FIGHTING BILL SIGNED INTO LAW

Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R-I-C, Syracuse) today announced legislation that he co-sponsored (S3237-A), to increase penalties for those who have knowingly participated in animal fighting, was signed into law and will take effect in 30 days.

“The criminal organization and participation in the cruel activity of animal fighting unfortunately still takes place in New York State despite the penalties associated with it,” said Senator DeFrancisco. “This new law strengthens the current laws against animal fighting by ensuring that anyone who attends an animal fight will face tougher penalties. I commend Governor Cuomo for signing this bill into law.”

September 11, 2011 A Day to Remember

1:00 P.M. You are invited to join Councilman Gentile to help display commemorative posters along the bike path. Each poster was handmade by a local student and honors a 9/11 victim. Meet at the 69th Street Pier for instructions.

4:30 P.M. Join Councilman Gentile at John Paul Jones “Cannon Ball” Park for a memorial ceremony featuring live music. (101st St & 4th Ave)

5:30 P.M. Immediately following the ceremony, join in a solemn procession along the bike path, sponsored by The Shore Road Parks Conservancy. We will all walk together and view the names of the 9/11 victims. The procession will end at the 69th Street pier. (No banners allowed in the procession)
