Senator O'Mara, Assemblyman Palmesano holding community meeting in Jasper (Steuben County) later today

Jasper, N.Y., October 11—New York State Senator Tom O’Mara (R-C, Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R-C-I, Corning) reminded area residents that they will hold a community meeting in Jasper (Steuben County) later today.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Jasper Town Hall.

El Juez de la Corte Federal de Brooklyn Nicholas Garaufis, dictamino que el Alcalde Michael Bloomberg y su Comisionado del Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad de New York han ignorado lo que el Juez describe como una permisiva discriminación contra todos los que no sean blancos al ser empleados en el Departamento de Bomberos de la Ciudad.

Por esta razón el Juez Nicholas Garaufis, ordenó la instalación de un arbitro imparcial que supervice todo aspecto de contratos, empleos y promociones que se hagan en el Departamento de Bomberos.

Senator Serrano visited the Manhattan Neighborhood Network  (MNN) Studios in East Harlem for a rollout of their new facilities. “I’m very proud to be here today to see, firsthand, the wonderful results of a project for which the whole community is excited," said Senator Serrano. Senator Martins and Assemblywoman Schimel Take Part in League of Women Voters Forum

New York State Senator Jack M. Martins and Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel both accepted an invitation to appear at a forum hosted by the Nassau County chapter of the League of Women Voters at the Manhasset Library. True to form, the League hosted an informative session as Senator Martins and Assemblywoman Schimel spoke about a variety of important issues affecting the state and our local communities.

Senator Martins and Assemblywoman Schimel have worked well together in Albany in a bi-partisan way for the communities they represent. The two legislators agree on some of the most important issues raised on the forum including the environment.

Governor Cuomo Issues Executive Order to Improve Access to State Services for Non-English Speakers

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued an Executive Order requiring state agencies that provide direct public services to offer free interpretation and translation services to members of the public for vital forms and instructions.

Based on census data, the services will be offered in Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian, French, and French Créole.

Approximately two and a half million New Yorkers do not speak English as their primary language and have limited ability to read, speak, write, or understand English. This presents potential barriers when trying to access important government benefits or services.

7 NY Dems Call for Investigation Into NYPD Syping

Associated Press NEW YORK — Seven Democratic state senators called Wednesday for the state attorney general to investigate the New York Police Department's spying on Muslim neighborhoods.

In a letter to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the senators cited an Associated Press investigation that found the NYPD has subjected entire communities to surveillance and scrutiny, often without any allegation of wrongdoing. Police built databases of businesses that catered to Muslims and monitored where certain Muslims ate, shopped, lived and prayed.

Serrano Statement Re: Governor Cuomo's Executive Order Requiring Language Assistance Services

STATE LEGISLATORS TO PROPOSE TOUGHER PENALTIES AGAINST CHILD PREDATORS

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R-C, Brooklyn/Staten Island) will host a press conference tomorrow, Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., outside the Bay Ridge Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library located at 7223 Ridge Boulevard in Brooklyn.

The lawmakers will announce legislation they have sponsored in both the Senate and the Assembly that will increase the penalties for predators who attempt to lure or entice a child by means of a computer, or into a vehicle or a secluded area, for the purposes of a sexual encounter or to commit a criminal offense.

Local members of the community have been invited to join the legislators at the announcement.
