Statement from Senator Malcolm A. Smith Re: The Passing of the Honorable Dora Young

Statement from Senator Malcolm A. Smith Re: The Passing of the Honorable Dora Young  “I am deeply saddened over the loss of  one of the pioneers of Queens, a woman who was like a “surrogate mother” to me, Dora Young. She was a trailblazer as the first African American Woman to serve as Vice Chair and acting Chair of the Queens Democratic Organization. “She  served the community for almost four decades with great pride and distinction.

Senator Reverend Diaz Celebrates His Fifth Sponsored and Signed Bill of 2011

August 22, 2011

For Immediate Release

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) is happy to announce that Governor Andrew Cuomo has signed the Senator’s fifth sponsored bill into law:

“Last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed my fifth sponsored piece of legislation into law (S.333/A.7007). Although it is easy enough for legislators to submit bills for consideration, it is not always easy for those of us who are not in the Majority to be effective legislators and get our bills passed and signed into law.

I celebrate that five of my sponsored bills have been approved in both the Senate and the Assembly, and signed into law by the Governor during the 2011 Session.

August 19, 2011

For Immediate Release

New York State Senator Reverend Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) has posed the following question today to his Facebook friends:

Who here thinks that Governor Andrew Cuomo played games with us when he let the Port Authority claim they'd hike the toll fares by $6 and then he could come along and act like a hero saying to only make it a $1.50 increase?

Yes, Governor Andrew Cuomo tried to make us look like fools.

No, Governor Andrew Cuomo is my hero.
