Applications for Funding Awards Being Sought to Educate Small Businesses about Health Insurance Options

Community Health Advocates (CHA) invites mission-driven business service organizations throughout New York State to apply for grants of $20,000 to $60,000 to provide outreach and assistance to small businesses in their communities about health insurance coverage, health reform and small business health insurance tax credits. CHA seeks to establish a small business assistance program (“SBAP”) to educate small businesses about the ACA, provide assistance to small businesses about health insurance and help inform the design and development of the State’s SHOP Exchange. Possible applicant organizations would include Chambers, Business Improvement Districts, local and economic development councils, and other groups that provide services and support to small business

SENATOR BALL DEMANDS SWIFT PASSAGE OF STATEWIDE CHILD SAFETY ZONE LAW AFTER PEDOPHILE IS PLACED NEAR SCHOOLS, DAYCARE AND BUS STOP

 

Carmel, N.Y. – (2/17/2012) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson) was joined by local lawmakers in Carmel on Friday to demand that his statewide Child Safety Zone Law (S1475) be passed immediately for the protection of our children in the wake of revelations that Level 3 Sex Offender and convicted pedophile Lance Smith was placed across the street from a daycare and a nursery school. In addition, a school bus stop where elementary children congregate is just 30′ away from his home, and Carmel High School and St. James the Apostle School are within a mile.

Brooklyn, NY –Senator Martin J. Golden today joined Kings County District Attorney Hynes, The 13th Avenue Merchant Association, and representatives from Lutheran Medical Center, to announce the addition of 17 stores on 13th Avenue to the Safe Stop Program at Kaktus, a children’s clothing store, located at 7511 13th Avenue.

“Almost a decade ago, Safe Haven was a program that let the community know, in times of danger, that our local stores will provide a safe place to contact the authorities and seek asylum,” stated Senator Golden. “Today, we come together to announce Safe Stop, and continue that program. Safe Stop, spearheaded by District Attorney Hynes, gives a safe place for both seniors and students to go to when they are lost, hurt, or in danger.”

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) has issued the following statement regarding the decision of United States Postal Service to remove both the Ovington Retail Station and the Brighton Beach Post Office from their closure list:

“It is such great news that the operations at the Ovington Retail Station Post Office, and the Brighton Beach Post Office, will not be shut down United States Post Office. I thank the Postmaster General for listening to the people and area officials, including myself, who asked that they keep these stations open so to continue to provide a high standard of customer service.

Senator Breslin Helps Pass Legislation to Better Protect Minors from Drug Abuse

Law would increase penalty for criminal sale of control substance to minors under age of 14

(Albany, NY) Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) announced that the New York State Senate passed legislation, S3210B, to combat the increase in drug use by young children and increase penalties for those who prey on youth. The new law will establish a more serious offense for the sale of a controlled substance to minors under the age of 14 by making it a class A-II felony.

STATEMENT BY SENATE MAJORITY LEADER DEAN SKELOS

            Today’s decision by federal Judge Loretta Preska to grant a temporary injunction allowing religious institutions to hold their services in New York City schools this weekend is a positive development for those institutions and their many parishioners.  

            This decision is the right one, and it ensures that members of religious institutions aren’t subject to discrimination and otherwise prevented from utilizing public facilities which are open to others.
