St. Albans, NY)- Aiming to protect victims of sexual abuse, New York State Senator Malcolm A. Smith (D-St. Albans) and the Senate Democratic Conference passed a package of bills aimed at improving public safety, creating harsher penalties for perpetrators of sexual abuse and strengthening adherence to penal laws.

SENATOR GOLDEN TO HONOR AMERICAN WAR HERO ON DAY U.S. CITIZENSHIP IS GRANTED

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), will honor Antonio Pellegrini with a New York State Senate Resolution, to mark the occasion of his becoming a United States citizen on the steps of U.S. Court Eastern District, 225 Cadman Plaza, tomorrow morning, Friday, April 8, 2011, at 8:10 a.m. The Pellegrini Family will join Senator Golden.

Mr. Pellegrini has been a resident of the United States for more than 49 years, calling Brooklyn, New York home. Antonio attended I.S. 228 and Lafayette High School.

Mr. Pellegrini volunteered to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Pellegrini will be sworn in as a citizen of the United States at a ceremony tomorrow morning.

KLEIN VISITS LAVELLE SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND, ANNOUNCES 4201 SCHOOL FUNDING RESTORED IN 2012 BUDGET

On Thursday, State Senator Jeff Klein (D- Bronx/ Westchester) joined Frank Simpson, Superintendent for LaVelle School for the Blind, Diane Tucker, Upper School Principal for LaVelle School for the Blind, representatives from the New York Institute for Special Education, Noreen Collins of St. Joseph’s School for the Deaf, students, parents and teachers at LaVelle School for the Blind to announce the restoration of funds for 4201 Schools in the 2012 Executive Budget.
