SENATOR GIANARIS INVITES YOUNG STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THANKSGIVING CREATIVE CELEBRATION

Queens, NY – Senator Michael Gianaris is sponsoring the New York State Senate Thanksgiving Day Creative Celebration for western Queens elementary schools as part of this year’s holiday. Eligible students are invited to submit a piece of artwork, poem or one-page essay expressing why they are thankful on this Thanksgiving. The program is called “What Are You Thankful For?”and is offered to students in kindergarten through 6th grade.

“As Thanksgiving approaches, I encourage all our elementary school students to participate in this fun, reflective program,” Senator Gianaris said. “The program gives students the opportunity to be creative and convey thanks for their family, friends and community. I look forward to seeing all of the imaginative submissions.”

Serrano Supports the Youth Violence Task Force in East Harlem!

Senator Serrano joined Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, community groups, and local youth today for the release of a platform to address youth violence. Mark-Viverito founded the El Barrio/East Harlem Youth Violence Task Force last year to address the growth of youth violence in the East Harlem community. The purpose of the Task Force is to gain greater collaborative efforts between government, law enforcement, non-profits, parents, schools, and the community as a whole to ensure that our youth is engaging in positive outlets.

‘MOBILE DISTRICT OFFICE’ COMING TO THE 1000 ISLANDS

State Senator Patty Ritchie is bringing her very successful “Mobile District Office” program to Jefferson County and Alexandria Bay on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Sen. Ritchie and Jefferson County Legislators Mike Docteur and Phil Reed will be on hand to help residents with any issues they may be having with state or other government agencies.

SENATOR BALL DEMANDS INVESTIGATION AND LEGISLATION FOLLOWING SLOW STORM RESPONSE BY FOREIGN-OWNED UTILITY

 

Yorktown Heights, N.Y. – (11/04/11) – Senator Greg Ball (R, C – Patterson), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs, today was joined by elected leaders from throughout the Hudson Valley, calling for an investigation into the slow response time by NYSEG following last weekend’s Nor’easter. In addition to holding a hearing to examine the root of the problem at NYSEG, Chairman Ball is also introducing legislation that would prohibit a foreign-owned company from operating utility services in New York State.
