New signs ease waiting worries

Riders of the Downtown Connection, the free shuttle-service connecting Battery Park City and the South Street Seaport, will no longer have to loiter at bus stops, wondering when the next bus will come.

The Downtown Alliance, the operator of the free shuttle, has installed energy-efficient signs at seven of the shuttle’s 37 stops in Lower Manhattan. The signs use Global Positioning Satellite technology to monitor the arrival and departure of the shuttles. They are intended to help riders better time their trips around Lower Manhattan.

Law May Help Close Troublesome Bars

State Senator Daniel L. Squadron, with constituents this summer, co-sponsored a recently enacted law that can help close troublesome nightspots.

There’s a new weapon to close down noisy and violent bars. At Tuesday’s Community Council meeting, Daniel L. Squadron, a Democratic state senator for the 25th District, which includes the East Village, discussed a new law signed by Gov. David A. Paterson just last month, designed to fight the very problems making life miserable for many locals. But for it to work, neighbors have to voice their complaints.

Gathering to support Long Island Blue Star Mothers, Chapter NY6.

Senator Owen H. Johnson and other state and local officials gathered with Leslie DeMarco, Secretary of the Long Island Blue Star Moms Chapter NY6 at the third annual Babylon to Beaches Soldier Ride which took place July 23, 2010.  Over 700 riders participated in the 22 mile trek from Babylon Town Hall to Overlook Beach in Islip.  Over $70,000 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project. 

The Blue Star Mothers of America is a nonpartisan organization of mothers who have or have had children honorably serving in the military.  They provide support and programs for injured service members.

Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State To Present Padavan With Legislator of the Year Award for 2010

The Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State have announced that they are presenting New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) with their prestigious Legislator of the Year Award for 2010 in late October.  The Cerebral Palsy Association of New York State was founded in 1946 and serves as a multi-service organization to assist and provide vital services to the families of children with cerebral palsy.    The award recognizes Padavan’s significant contributions through the legislative process that have resulted in increased independence, productivity or integration for people with cerebral palsy and other significant disabilities, or is a benefit to their families.

Saratoga Springs - Friday September 17, 2010 - Senator Roy McDonald was invited to start off the annual Alzheimer's Memory Walk at Wesley Health Care Center. Wesley provides residents with the opportunity to participate in the event within the facility to support Alzheimer's awareness.
