Like Shirley Chisholm, she went boldly into a male dominated national arena and weathered political storms, and even defeat, with grace and resolve. Honoring Firefighter Mike Giroux and Yonkers Police and Fire Departments

Senator Stewart-Cousins and Assemblyman Mike Spano passed resolutions in honor of Firefighter Mike Giroux and the Yonkers Fire and Police Departments this week, for their heroic rescue of two workers who were dangling 13 stories above ground from a collapsed scaffold at the St. Casimir Apartments in Yonkers on March 4th.

Senator Stewart-Cousins and Assemblyman Mike Spano passed resolutions in honor of Firefighter Mike Giroux and the Yonkers Fire and Police Departments on March 23, for their heroic rescue of two workers who were dangling 13 stories above ground from a collapsed scaffold at the St. Casimir Apartments in Yonkers on March 4th. “This was a truly heroic rescue effort, and it once again displayed how our firefighters and police officers act with courage on a daily basis,” said Senator Stewart-Cousins. “And I am struck by how humble the firefighters and officers that we are honoring today have been in the aftermath of the rescue; not wanting to be called heroes and sharing recognition with their colleagues.

Halfmoon March 25 -  Senator Roy McDonald will host a budget public hearing on the New York State budget for Saratoga County residents this Saturday, March 26th beginning at 10A.M. The event will be at the Halfmoon Senior Center in the Town of Halfmoon.

NY 1: Albany Lawmakers Close To An On-Time Budget Deal

As a deadline of April 1 approaches, state lawmakers say they are very close to a budget deal.

After emerging from a closed-door meeting with Governor Andrew Cuomo, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver said they are close to a deal, and that there will be some school aid restoration in the budget.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos said a deal could be reached as early as Friday evening.

That means there could be a vote on Monday.

Senate Passes Klein Bill to Crack Down on Auto Insurance Fraud

Measure Would Increase Penalties for Criminals Who Forge Auto Insurance Cards

ALBANY, NY – Legislation sponsored by Senator Jeffrey D. Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) that would impose tougher penalties on those who commit auto insurance fraud, passed the State Senate today.

Klein’s bill (S.578) would make it a felony to forge an auto insurance card or certificate of insurance. In New York State, these documents are necessary to obtain the government issued documents, such as a vehicle registration, that are required to legally operate a motor vehicle.
