PORT RICHMOND CERT SEEKS VOLUNTEERS – FALL TRAINING BEGINS OCTOBER 6TH.

The Port Richmond Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is an active volunteer team established in October 2005. The team has amassed over 40,000 hours of community service by covering all of Staten Island. We are looking to recruit Islanders who want to ‘give back’. The New York City Office of Emergency Management is offering their fall training course, beginning October 6th.

SENATOR GOLDEN CALLS FOR YANKEES TO BRING TRIPLE A TEAM TO NEW YORK CITY FOR 2012

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden today urged the New York Yankees and the International League to re-locate their Triple A Farm Team, the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees, to New York City for the 2012 season.

The Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees play in the International League (AAA), which is considered one-step below the Major Leagues. The team will be unable to play their home games in PNC Park, located in Moosic, PA, during 2012 as the stadium (which was opened in 1989) undergoes a $40 million renovation.

LaValle Calls on President to Expand Disaster Assistance For Suffolk County

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today called upon President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expand federal disaster assistance available to  Suffolk  County so that home and business owners can apply for federal assistance.

While localities in Suffolk will be eligible to receive federal assistance to pay for storm related road, bridge and infrastructure repairs, home and business owners were not included on the list for disaster assistance.

“Some residents of Suffolk have extensive damages from the storm,” Senator LaValle said.  “I am urging the federal government to provide whatever assistance is needed to help people recover.”

FEMA Designation Update

Update: The Governor’s Office called this afternoon asking residents to be reassured the FEMA disaster designation process for this region is not over. Again, strong concern was communicated to him that Montgomery County was left off the initial list and that residents and businesses were hit hard and are in desperate need.
