Senator Montgomery Votes to Preserve Seniority & Tenure Rights of Educators

At a recent meeting of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Montgomery spoke out against the Last In, First Out (LIFO) bill (S.3501), which attempts to leverage the state’s current fiscal crisis to eliminate the seniority and tenure rights of all New Year City educators. Moreover, the bill is a blatant attempt at union busting, demonstrating a clear and dangerous disregard for the rights of educators that have been negotiated and defined through collective bargaining.

Senator Ritchie Meets with Ogdensburg Bishop Terry LaValley in Albany

New York State Senator Patty Ritchie visited with Ogdensburg Bishop Terry LaValley during his visit to Albany on Tuesday.Bishop LaValley oversees the Roman Catholic diocese of Ogdensburg which stretches from the shores of Lake Ontario to the shores of Lake Champlain, stretching along New York State's border with Canada. Bishop LaValley was one of over 1,000 Roman Catholics from across New York State who visited the state legislature with the New York State Catholic Conference to talk about issues affecting Catholic schools and the New York's Catholics.Senator Ritchie's 48th senate district includes Jefferson and a portion of St. Lawrence County that is included in Bishop LaValley's diocese.Catholics at the Capitol is an annual event.

Senator Ritchie Supporting "Recharge New York" Jobs Bill

State Sen. Patty Ritchie is expecting the “Recharge New York” bill she is cosponsoring will pass the State Senate later today. She said the bill will help upstate businesses create jobs and help farmers reduce their energy costs.“I am very pleased to see these vital reforms moving forward through the state legislature,” said Senator Ritchie. “It’s long past time that New York State recognizes that our farms and our agriculture industry is vital to revitalizing the upstate economy.”

“I particularly want to thank State Sen. George Maziarz, the chairman of the Senate Energy Committee, for his efforts to make sure that the needs of upstate’s businesses and our family farms were protected in this legislation,” she said.
