Senator Serrano Co-Sponsors Open House at "La Marqueta"

Senator José M. Serrano and the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), along with other community leaders and elected officials, co-sponsored an open house at East Harlem's La Marqueta. 

The open-house gave members of the community a chance to sample the newest additions to the market, as well as an opportunity to take a tour of Hot Bread Kitchen, a commercial kitchen space dedicated to train women for baking commercially. Hot Bread Kitchen also contains an incubator kitchen, designed for those who are in need of a commercially licensed area to cook their goods for an affordable price.

Coat Drive Delivers Warmth to Those In Need

State Senator Jose Peralta's annual coat drive this year yielded more than 250 winter coats, as well as scarves, hats and gloves, thanks to the help and generosity of Good Morning America, Burlington Coat Factory and One Warm Coat.

The winter clothes are being distributed to local churches and non-profit service providers, including the AIDS Center of Queens County, Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities and the Church of the Resurrection, as well as homeless shelters in the area.

Senator Serrano Joins District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance for East Harlem Town Hall

Senator Jose M. Serrano joined Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance for an East Harlem Town Hall meeting. The meeting was co-sponsored by Community Board #11, and was attended by elected officials, leaders and residents of the East Harlem Community.  District Attorney Vance highlighted his new initiatives and priorities, and gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions and voice their concerns. "I'm very glad to be here, alongside the District Attorney, to hear the concerns of the East Harlem community and to make them aware of the services provided by our respective offices," said Senator Serrano. "I look forward to working with District Attorney Vance in the future on many of the East Harlem issues discussed here today."

SENATOR MARTY GOLDEN ASKS STUDENTS: “WHO WANTS TO BE A STATE SENATOR FOR A DAY?”

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District), is announcing his 9th Annual “State Senator For A Day” essay contest and is inviting the participation of students from schools within grades 6, 7, and 8, throughout his Senatorial District.

Senator Marty Golden is asking students to write essays of no more than 250-words which begins with the phrase, “If I were a State Senator for a Day...”. The winning essays are judged on content and creativity and must be received by Monday, March 28, 2011.

Finalists will be notified and invited to a special ceremony in the Spring where they will read aloud their essays in front of a panel of judges. The winner of the contest and their class will be invited to Albany to see the legislative process in action.

Mobile Office Hours-Freeport
