STATEMENT BY SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER DEAN SKELOS

Today the MTA put the finishing touches on the Senate Democrats’ disastrous bailout plan that has resulted in an almost 20 percent increase in LIRR fares over two years, significant service cuts and the job-killing payroll tax.

 

While infuriated LIRR commuters are reading about what the MTA board approved, they can thank Senate Democrats for voting in unison for a plan that hurts families, businesses, municipalities and not for profits, and didn’t even spare commuters from service cuts or balance the MTA budget.

Thomas Sandoval recently met with Senator Owen H. Johnson as part of his Citizenship in the Community Badge, a prerequisite for his Eagle Scout.  Thomas fulfilled his requirement to interview an elected official on citizenship in the community.

Thompson Tours Niagara Falls Public Library Where A Community Logs On To New Opportunities

Niagara Falls, NY – Join New York State Senator Antoine Thompson (D-parts of Erie & Niagara counties) for a tour of the Niagara Falls Public Library on Thursday, October 7th  at 2:30 pm.  Students, along with other members of the public now have access to 40 new computers thanks to $30,000 Senator Thompson secured for library funding.

It’s estimated that hundreds of people pass through the Niagara Falls Public Library each week, where students use the computers as a study tool, while adults use them for resume writing and to search for employment opportunities.

Magee Fire Department

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently had the opportunity to meet with members of the Magee Fire Department to see their new fire and emergency rescue equipment. As first responders for accidents on the nearby New York State Thruway, this equipment is critical when seconds count and a person’s life is at stake. Senator Nozzolio was very proud to have helped the Department to purchase this equipment. Their dedication and commitment to protect the safety of their community is truly outstanding.

Babylon Village sees new traffic safety improvements!

Mayor Ralph Scordino; Mrs. Fran Sweeney; and Senator Owen H. Johnson are shown with new overhead lane signs at the intersection of Route 109, Montauk Highway, Peninsula Drive and Little East Neck Road in Babylon Village.

Mrs. Fran Sweeney and fellow residents of  the community located south of Montauk Highway brought their concerns to Senator Owen Johnson regarding the safety of this intersection.  Cars were frequently being cut off as traffic moved to either turn onto Peninsula Drive or to turn  onto Montauk Highway.  Mrs. Sweeney requested safety improvements including the installation of lane signs and a turn arrow.

Senator Lanza joins with elected officials, Army Corps of Engineers, DEC, DEP, and NYC Parks to announce funding for the Staten Island Flood Plain Study. 13 miles of coastline vulnerable to severe storm damage will be studied to determine what shore protections and storm mitigation measures are warranted.

Brooklyn's 4th Senior Idol

and the winner is... Nunzio Franzese!

October 2nd was a night to remember! The audience was packed with hundreds of people cheering and screaming for their favorite singer! Twelve finalists performed singing great tunes such as My Way, It's Impossible, Your Cheating Heart and the winning song was Mack the Knife.

There were people from all over the city cheering for family and friends. They came from Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens, Dyker, Midwood, Canarsie and Babylon.

This event started 4 years ago as a fundraiser for local Bay Ridge AARP Chapter #5055 and now has become a fabulous community event that we all look forward to each year and the talent gets better and better.

Opening day ceremonies for the South Shore Soccer Club, Inc. were held on September 11, 2010 at Van Bourgondien Park.  The ceremony began with a banner parade and, afterward, the teams gathered for encouraging remarks for a fun filled season.
