St. Anthony Festival

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently attended the St. Anthony’s Festival in Seneca Falls. The festival showcases the rich Italian history and traditions of the Seneca Falls area. Senator Nozzolio had the opportunity to meet with many of the festivals patrons, sample the food, and speak with the local vendors.

SENATOR ADDABBO TO ADDRESS PRIMARY DAY VOTING PROBLEMS

Will Hold Elections Committee Hearing to Identify Solutions

 September 20, 2010, Queens, NY – NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., (D-Howard Beach) Chair of the NY State Senate Elections Committee, is working with the New York City Board of Elections to address issues with new voting machines that came to light in Tuesday’s primary election.  Problems setting up the machines and late delivery of equipment keys caused some polling places to open late, and delays in signing in voters at others.

NYS Senator Eric Adams Announces Signing Into Law of His Peace Officer Training Bill, Which Regulates, Upgrades, and Streamlines Training Requirements for Peace Officers

NYS Senator Eric Adams’ bill S6102A has been signed into law by the Governor. The legislation updates and modernizes the prior law (passed in 1980) to increase training standards for peace officers in New York State.

 Senator Adams states: “The environment in which Peace Officers carry out their functions, powers, and duties has changed drastically since 1980, when the original training requirements were enacted. Peace officers now enforce a variety of local and State laws, are authorized to use force and make warrantless arrests and searches, and can be assigned to perform many of the same functions as police officers. Therefore, the mandated limitation on their preparation became outdated.

Hang Around Victor Day

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently attended the 34th Annual Hang Around Victor Day. The annual event brings hundreds of visitors to Victor and is an important economic opportunity for local residents to showcase all of the things that make Victor such a great place to live. Hang Around Victor Day was a tremendously successful event and Senator Nozzolio was honored to have the opportunity to meet with so many residents, business owners and other visitors to the area

12 FINALISTS SELECTED TO COMPETE IN BROOKLYN’S SENIOR IDOL SHOW

Brooklyn – State Senator Marty Golden and the officers of AARP Chapter #5055 today are announcing the names of the twelve (12) finalists chosen to compete in Brooklyn’s Senior Idol Show to be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Xaverian High School.

The finalists are: Rita Biamonte, Kathie Bistreich, Gianvito Bottalico, Darnley Brown, Eddie Gentile, Julia Dioria, Nunzio Franzese, Hector Gonzalez, Florence Irving, Christine Larkin, Lee Spinosa, and David Vann.

STATEN ISLANDERS SHOULD CALL 311 TO REPORT DAMAGE INCURRED DURING SEPT. 16 STORM - Information collected will be used to determine eligibility for FEMA disaster declarations

Residents affected by last night’s storm should call 311 to report any damage to their homes or businesses. In order to qualify for disaster relief assistance, New York City must estimate the storm's total effect on city residents and employees. Residents should be prepared to answer questions about the extent of their property damage, and should take photographs, if possible, of any damage prior to debris removal or repair.

Webster 9/11 Memorial Service

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently attended the Village of Webster’s 9/11 Memorial Service to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice nine years ago. Senator Nozzolio acknowledged the lives of those who died that day and those individuals who continue to fight and sacrifice for our Nation’s freedom and safety around the world.

VFW Veterans Memorial in Clifton Springs

Senator Mike Nozzolio had the privilege of speaking at the Veterans Monument Dedication and 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in Clifton Springs. Located in the Veterans Memorial Park, the monument pays tribute to the brave men and women who have made tremendous sacrifices in the name of our Nation’s freedom. At the dedication, Senator Nozzolio was also honored to remember those that were lost on September 11, 2001.

Officials mark completion of canalside improvements

QUEENSBURY -- Howard Raymond was there for the early days of the effort to clean up the Feeder Canal, when engines and furniture were lugged from the water.

The canal has come a long way over the 23 years that the Feeder Canal Alliance has been advocating for it, the waters running clean and clear compared to years ago.

St. Anthony Procession

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently presented a special New York State Resolution to the St. Anthony’s Festival Committee Members. For 30 years, the Committee has been organizing the St. Anthony’s festival, celebrating the rich Italian traditions of our region. Senator Nozzolio was honored to be able to recognize the Committee members and be a part of their procession to St. Patrick’s Church on Sunday Morning.

Doe Workers Hired to Clean Up Jackson Heights

The grime and trash on Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights has long frustrated residents and politicians in the area, but with state Sen. Jose Peralta’s (D-Jackson Heights) assistance, some familiar faces — and uniforms — will return to clean up the place. 

On Sept. 7, Peralta presented The Doe Fund, an organization dedicated to empowering the homeless, with a $250,000 check paid through discretionary funds for Doe’s “men in blue” to spruce up parts of Roosevelt Avenue, Astoria Boulevard, Northern Boulevard and LeFrak City four days a week.
