Henderson Ford Ribbon Cutting

Senator Mike Nozzolio recently cut the ribbon at the new Henderson Webster Ford Lincoln Facility in Webster, New York. Formerly Webster Ford Lincoln Mercury, Henderson will continue its dedicated service to the Webster community, providing exceptional service, creating jobs, and strengthening the local economy. Senator Nozzolio was proud to be a part of this important event.

Doe Workers Hired to Clean Up Jackson Heights

The grime and trash on Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights has long frustrated residents and politicians in the area, but with state Sen. Jose Peralta’s (D-Jackson Heights) assistance, some familiar faces — and uniforms — will return to clean up the place. 

On Sept. 7, Peralta presented The Doe Fund, an organization dedicated to empowering the homeless, with a $250,000 check paid through discretionary funds for Doe’s “men in blue” to spruce up parts of Roosevelt Avenue, Astoria Boulevard, Northern Boulevard and LeFrak City four days a week.

United Community Civic Association Holds 9th Annual 9/11 Candlelight Memorial Ceremony

The United Community Civic Association (UCCA) and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANY/NJ) held their ninth annual Memorial Candlelight Ceremony in McManus Memorial Park, 81st Street and the Grand Central Parkway service road in Astoria Heights, commemorating those who lost their lives in the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Community leaders attended the September 7 event, including members of the NYPD, FDNY, PANY/NJ and families and friends of loved ones who were lost.

Senator Flanagan Honored For Efforts To Help Expand Kings Park Fire Department

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) was recently honored by the Kings Park Fire District’s Board of Fire Commissioners for his efforts in getting the state to transfer a parcel of land on the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center property to the Kings Park Fire District (KPFD).

The transfer, which was sponsored by Senator Flanagan and Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (7th Assembly District) in their respective houses of the legislature and signed into law on August 26TH, will enable the fire district to build a substation at the site and provide better service the Kings Park residents.

SENATOR FUSCHILLO CONGRATULATES EAST MEADOW EAGLE SCOUT

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) today congratulated East Meadow resident Brian Berger for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

Brian, who graduated from East Meadow High School earlier this year, is currently in his first semester at Nassau Community College. Brian is interested in joining the military as a soldier in the U.S. Army.

ADDABBO: Landmark “Dignity for All Students Act” Signed Into Law; prevents discrimination, harassment and bullying against students on school grounds

Queens, NY, September 14, 2010 – At the start of another school year, NYS Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. (D-Howard Beach), who serves on the Senate’s Education Committee, announced that Governor David A. Paterson has signed into law legislation (S1987B/Duane) that would keep children from facing harassment and abuse at school.  Last spring, when the school year was winding down, Senator Addabbo had sponsored some anti-bullying lectures at local middle schools in his district, which immediately followed parent-teacher meetings. The 45-minute talks featured Mark Weiss, Operation Respect’s Education Director, and included lively Q&As with over 100 parents and children.
