SENATOR GOLDEN SAYS NEW YORK KIDS LEFT AT THE BOTTOM BECAUSE OF RACE TO THE TOP

Senator Martin J. Golden (R,C,I-Brooklyn) has called for all the members of the New York State Senate to support legislation he has introduced which would allow the State to compete for federal money from the Race to the Top program. Golden’s legislation would lift the cap on the number of charter schools in New York from 200 to 460.

LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENT SERVES AS INTERN IN SENATOR SKELOS' DISTRICT OFFICE

Senator Dean Skelos recently thanked Joanna Strick, a resident of Oceanside,  for serving as an intern in his Rockville Centre district office.  

"Joanna has been a valuable asset to my office and I greatly appreciate all of her time and effort," said Senator Skelos.  "She is an intelligent young woman who will surely succeed in all of her future endeavors."

Joanna is currently attending Queens College and majoring in Media Studies.

STATEMENT BY SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER DEAN SKELOS

It is disappointing, but certainly not unexpected, that New York did not receive any money from the federal Race to the Top program.  New York’s application for up to $700 million in federal money was put at an extreme disadvantage earlier this month when Democrats in the Senate and Assembly refused to pass legislation to lift the cap on charter schools,
