For weeks, Staten Islanders have cried out for help for 9 Mexicans who were brutally assaulted in bias attacks. As the Chair of the Senate Puerto Rican/Latino Caucus and as the President of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, I prepared for a prayerful demonstration to be held today against all manners of violence against ethnic groups.

Island politicians keeping up with voters on Facebook

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Facebook isn't just a way to keep up with your old buddies and long-lost relatives.

The popular social networking site has also become a powerful way for some Staten Island elected officials to stay on top of hot topics and reach out to borough residents.

Ms. Savino designed her Facebook page as an "information gateway," using news articles and editorials to spur discussions about local and national issues, including same-sex marriage and pay equity.

Senator Foley to Educate the Public About Hurricane Preparedness

Senator Brian X. Foley (D – Blue Point) announced today that his office will be making available Hurricane Preparedness Guides and will host a Hurricane Preparedness seminar.

The Hurricane Preparedness Guide is an updated version of the guide offered by Senator Foley while he was Supervisor of Brookhaven Town.

“Hurricane season inevitably brings with it questions about how to prepare and fears about what to do if a storm hits,” said Senator Foley. “This guide contains the information you and your loved ones need to ensure you have a plan in place prior to a storm and the necessary supplies on-hand for during and after a storm. I urge all residents, but particularly those along the south shore, to contact my office or visit my website to obtain a copy.”

Walworth- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently participated in the annual Walworth Lions Club parade. Senator Nozzolio had the opportunity to meet with the 2010 Wayne County Fair Royalty Court.

Senator Mike Nozzolio Night At McDonough Park

Geneva- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently hosted "Senator Mike Nozzolio Community Baseball Night" in Geneva where the Geneva Red Wings took on the Webster Yankees at McDonough Park. Senator Nozzolio sponsored a local food drive in conjunction with the game as a way to collect non-perishable food to support our local food banks.

Recognizing Our Community's True Heroes

Seneca Falls- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently paid special tribute to the men and women of the Seneca Falls police and fire departments. Senator Nozzolio recognized their valuable contribution to the community at the unveiling of the Public Safety Memorial.

Webster Jamboree Troop 316

Webster- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently met with members of the Webster Jamboree Troop 316 during "Senator Mike Nozzolio Community Baseball Night" at Webster's Yankee Stadium. Senator Nozzolio presented the scouts with a special New York State flag that had been flown over the State Capitol in Albany. The scouts will be attending a national scouting jamboree and will be taking the flag with them as a symbol of New York State.

McDonald Concerned Over Reports of Small Businesses Not Being Paid by State

Troy, NY — Senator Roy McDonald today expressed his concern and frustration with reports he has received from small and mid-sized business owners throughout his district that the State has been significantly past due in paying for services provided by their companies.

“I’ve been approached by a number of business owners who haven’t been paid in months,” said McDonald. “We cannot allow this to continue, small and mid-sized businesses are the backbone of the Upstate economy providing local jobs, tax revenue, and stability in many Upstate communities.”
