Senator Foley Urges Residents to Be Aware of Dangers of West Nile Virus

Senator Brian X. Foley released the following statement today, giving residents information on how to protect their families from West Nile Virus:

“Last week Nassau County identified fifteen new sites where mosquitoes were infected with West Nile Virus, while here in Suffolk County fourteen sites have been identified.

“Since its first appearance in New York in 1999 over 250 cases of West Nile Virus have been found in New Yorkers and 26 deaths have been reported. The virus infects birds and is spread to humans through mosquitoes that feed on both species. While contracting West Nile Virus is rare, it is extremely serious, especially for people over 50 years old.

Webster Fireman’s Parade

Webster- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently had the opportunity to join members of the Webster community in participating in the annual Webster Fireman’s Parade. Senator Nozzolio is a long time supporter of the Webster Volunteer Fire Department as well as the Webster High School Marching Band, who also marched in the parade.

SENATOR SALAND: NYS COMPTROLLER’S REPORT ON THE EXCESSIVE OVERTIME PAID BY THE MTA “OUTRAGEOUS”

NYS Senator Duane and NYS Assemblymember Kavanagh Comment as Court Rules for Stuyvesant Town & Peter Cooper Village Tenants Against Met Life AGAIN

On Thursday, August 5, 2010, Justice Robert Lowe of the New York State Supreme Court denied a motion by Met Life to dismiss the claims of Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village tenants for damages resulting from Met Life’s illegal deregulation of apartments and rent overcharges. The ruling came in the ongoing litigation of the Roberts case, in which the State’s highest court had previously found that Met Life and Tishman Speyer, which purchased the complex from Met Life in 2006, had given up their right to deregulate apartments by accepting generous tax benefits under the City’s J-51 program.

Summer Internship Program

Geneva- Senator Mike Nozzolio recently thanked Karina VanHouten for her volunteer work as an Intern in his Seneca Falls District Office. Senator Nozzolio provides high school and college students with internship opportunities in both his District and Albany offices. Karina was the valedictorian of the Geneva High School Class of 2008 and currently attends Middlebury College in Vermont.

Senator Skelos' Mobile Office Hours -- West Hempstead

 

Senator Skelos will be holding mobile office hours on Monday, August 9th, from 3pm to 7:30 pm at the West Hemptead Library which is located at 500 Hempstead Avenue. Constituents will be able to speak with Senator Skelos and his staff about any concerns they may have. No appointments are necessary.

 

Residents who cannot attend Senator Skelos's mobile office hours but have an issue that they would like to share with him can contact his district office at (516) 766-8383.
