SENATE ACTS TO MAKE ROADS SAFER HELP RESIDENTS OBTAIN STAR TAX BENEFITS

Senator Breslin Urges New Yorkers to Use Mother’s Day as a Reminder to Schedule Annual Mammograms

(Albany, NY) New York State Senator Neil D. Breslin (D-Delmar) reminds New Yorkers that May 8th is Mother’s Day, and is encouraging everyone to celebrate and honor our mothers by scheduling an annual mammogram to protect their health and well-being.

“Mother’s Day is more than just a holiday. It’s a day to show someone how much you really care about protecting women’s health,” said Senator Breslin. “Preventative screenings can make all of the difference in the battle against breast cancer. People should not feel uncomfortable discussing the need for routine mammograms because a regular exam could make all the difference. I hope people will not only schedule for themselves, but take their mothers, sisters, daughters and friends with them.”

Juneteenth is a celebration commemorating the day many slaves first heard the emancipation proclamation for the first time and realized their freedom. June nineteenth of 1865, slaves in Galveston, Texas were read the emancipation proclamation and word spread rather quickly plantation to plantation that they were no longer slaves, but free men and women.

New law would elevate text messaging while driving violation to a primary offense

Albany - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) yesterday joined his colleagues in the New York State Senate in voting to pass a bill (S.998B) that will make it easier for law enforcement to crack down on texting-while-driving offenses and prevent tragic accidents caused by drivers distracted by texting.

The bill would make text messaging while driving a primary violation rather than a secondary violation. Under the current law, a driver can only be cited for texting-while-driving if another violation, such as speeding, is also being cited.

LaValle: Senate Passes Legislation to Strengthen Law on Text Messaging While Driving

New York State Senator Kenneth P. LaValle today co-sponsored and voted for a bill (S.998B) that will make it easier for law enforcement to crack down on texting-while-driving offenses and prevent tragic accidents caused by drivers distracted by texting.

The bill would make text messaging while driving a primary violation rather than a secondary violation. Under the current law, a driver can only be cited for texting-while-driving if another violation, such as speeding, is also being cited.

 Federal data shows 16,000 deaths nationwide due to texting while driving.
