That bridge would be the Verrazano-Narrows, which adds to the logistical challenges facing the four Staten Island elected officials whose bi-borough districts include portions of Brooklyn.

Pols pressuring B’klyn Hts Montessori to keep its Little Room open

A group of Brooklyn-based elected officials are trying to use their political clout to stop a prominent preschool for special needs children from closing.

State Sen. Daniel Squadron, Assemblywoman Joan Millman and Councilmembers Steve Levin and Brad Lander fired off a letter yesterday to the head of the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, asking the school’s board to reconsider its decision to close the Little Room preschool beginning in August.

Haiti Relief Benefit at The Bell House

This Wednesday, it was my pleasure to participate in a benefit concert for Haiti relief efforts at the Bell House in Brooklyn. 

The event raised funds for two amazing organizations, Save the Children and Partners in Health that have been providing direct medical care, as well as assisting the most vulnerable victims of this disaster, the children.

SENATOR GOLDEN REMINDS THOSE ELIGIBLE TO FILE FOR THE EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT

Brooklyn - State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is today reminding eligible New Yorkers to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit, as part of the nationwide campaign designating January 29, 2010, “EITC Awareness Day”.The Earned Income Tax is a refundable credit for low income employees, designed to help eligible taxpayers lower their taxes or receive refunds. National estimates indicate that 15 to 20 percent of eligible workers do not claim their Earned Income Tax Credit benefits at the federal or municipal level. Last year, the average EITC amount was $2,000.
