Senator Suzi Oppenheimer Announces National Foundation for Women Legislators' Essay Contest

Seven female high school junior and senior students will win an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) annual conference and receive a $3,000 college scholarship. Applicants must write an essay addressing this year’s topic, “Freedom and Civic Virtues,” which calls upon students to describe how moral principles and the United States Bill of Rights shape the role of young adults in civic engagement.

Bipartisan Coalition Calls on the Assembly Majority to Protect Power for Jobs Program

STATEMENT BY SENATE REPUBLICAN LEADER DEAN SKELOS

By increasing spending with no way to pay for it, Democrats have created an unbalanced budget that includes no relief for property taxpayers and continues to cut the STAR property tax relief program by millions of dollars.  

 

This budget does nothing to create jobs.  In fact, Democrats voted to eliminate half a billion dollars in job creation tax credits that will jeopardize thousands of jobs, especially upstate.

Peralta Hosts Town Hall Meeting in LeFrak City-Budget, MCI, Traffic and Community Center Discussed

Senator José Peralta hosted his the first Town Hall meeting since taking office on Friday evening in LeFrak City. Over 50 people came out to discuss community issues with the Senator including the Major Capital Improvement (MCI) project that is underway at LeFrak city, Peralta’s legislative record and the budget negations that are still underway. Residents also spoke about parking issues, the need for a Community Center and the ongoing traffic issues on 57th Street & Junction.

Padavan Honored For Commitment and Dedication To The Entire Whitestone Community

New York State Senator Frank Padavan (Queens) joined with Councilman Dan Halloran, the Greater Whitestone Taxpayers’ Civic Association, the Knights of Columbus and the North Queens United Group to host the first annual Whitestone Family Appreciation Day at Francis Lewis Park on Saturday June 26.  The event featured an afternoon full of programs, games and activities for children and their families.  Money raised from raffles and other donations will benefit the Whitestone Veteran’s Memorial Day Association.  During the event, the Padavan was honored by the Greater Whitestone

Grand Opening of a new building at the Joseph Y. Resnick Airport in the Town of Wawarsing

On Sunday, June 27th, 2010 Senator Bonacic attended and spoke at a ribbon-cutting and naming of the building ceremony at the Joseph Y. Resnick Airport located between the Village of Ellenville and the Hamlet of Napanoch.  The building will house a Substation for the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, as well as a modular terminal building.

City Recreation Centers, Pools, Spray Parks Ready for Summer Vacation!

Now that school is out, Recreation Centers around the city will begin their summer programming, which will run from June 28 through August 20, generally from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities at the centers range from sports and games to swimming, meals, nature activities, arts and crafts, community service projects, and more.
