MAMMOGRAMS SAVE LIVES: GOLDEN PROMOTES ADELPHI’S NY STATEWIDE BREAST CANCER HOTLINE AND SUPPORT PROGRAM

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden today has joined with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in their annual Mother’s Day breast cancer awareness campaign to urge women to get mammograms.

Senator Golden stated, “Mother’s Day is a significant time to remind women to get mammograms. I hope that this Mother’s Day women will take the time to make an appointment for a mammogram. Approximately 95 percent of all mammograms prove to be normal.”

Supporting Victims Of Abuse

Auburn - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently participated in the official opening of the Child Advocacy Center of Cayuga County which will provide counseling services to children who have been the victims of sexual and physical abuse. Senator Nozzolio has been an outspoken proponent of victim’s rights and was instrumental in securing the necessary state funding to establish the Center.

Drive for work-zone safety invokes slain Island paver

By Maura YatesApril 20, 2010, 7:15AMSTATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The phone rang in Anna Antico's Willowbrook home shortly after 2 a.m. on a fall night in 2005.The voice said her husband, Nicky, 35, a city Department of Transportation road worker, had been mowed down by a speeding SUV while he worked to pave Slosson Avenue in Castleton Corners.Antico lingered in a coma for five days, before succumbing to massive head injuries.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Eating for the hungry: This simple equation drives "Dine Out Against Hunger" -- an annual event that has come to define the generosity and compassion of Staten Islanders, by bringing people out to local restaurants that in turn donate to charity.Nearly 150 restaurants -- from Tottenville to Tompkinsville, with menus ranging from fast fare to haute cuisine -- will participate in Dine Out Against Hunger on Thursday.Click here for a complete list of restaurants participating in the event.

Ten Mile Walk of the Greenbelt to Save Pouch Camp

This is Protectors of Pine Oak Woods annual spring Greenbelt walk, but with an emphasis on their efforts to secure preservation of Pouch Camp. Join us for a rally at the kickoff at 10 a.m. Those not joining the walk may choose to meet up with us at noon for lunch at Berlin Lodge overlooking beautiful Orbach Lake in Pouch Camp. We ask that you bring your own lunch and beverage. Speakers will be on-hand to talk about how vital it is to preserve all of Pouch Camp. The Protectors walk then continues at 1 p.m. Our walk covers ten miles at a comfortable pace.

A Special Day: Israel's 62nd Anniversary

This past Monday, the 19th, we celebrated the 62nd anniversary of Israeli Independence, a day also known as Yom Ha’atzmaut. I am very happy that this year the Senate commemorated Israeli Independence Day, and the unique bond between Israel and New York, through a resolution honoring the remarkable achievements of Israelis over the past 62 years.

Senator Nozzolio Recognizes Wallington Firefighters

Sodus - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently spoke to members of the Wallington Fire Company where he paid special tribute to several firefighters for their outstanding community service. Ken Kelsey was recognized with the Top Training Hours Award after completing over 157 hours of training. Senator Nozzolio also presented special New York State flags that have been flown over the State Capitol to Commissioner Ken Eastley for 46 years of service and to Chief Fred Burkhard for 35 years.
