President Lincoln’s Bible Returns Home After 149 Years

Port Byron - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently spoke about the importance of leadership and government service at the ceremony marking the return of President Abraham Lincoln's bible to the Port Byron community. The bible was given by Amos Scott King to President Abraham Lincoln in 1861 and is kept along with Amos Scott King's letter to President Lincoln at the Lincoln family home in Manchester, Vermont.

Lower Manhattan Residents Sound Off On Noisy Bar Scene

"I can't even let my child walk home alone at night and I've lived there for 30 years,” testified one Lower East Side resident.

The "I was here first" sentiment was echoed repeatedly by people living near a bar or nightclub who are at their wit's end. People at the town hall meeting vented and hoped for a resolution.

They had the attention of the State Liquor Authority chairman and Lower Manhattan elected officials.

At ferry, Island officials rally ahead of census

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Big Count begins on March 19, and millions of dollars are at stake. That’s when homes on Staten Island and across the nation will begin receiving U.S. Census forms in the mail. “If you are human, if you are breathing, if you are living anywhere on Staten Island, we want to count you,” said Reva J. Sears, partnership coordinator for Census 2010. Ms. Sears was joined by borough elected officials at the St. George Ferry Terminal today to raise awareness about the once-a-decade count of Americans.

(Yonkers, NY)- On Wednesday, February 3rd New York State Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins spoke to the Westchester County YMCA Youth and Government Group as they prepare for a statewide conference they will be attending next month. Comprised of students from Pleasantville High School and the Yonkers YMCA, the Westchester County Youth and Government Group meets twice a month at Mercy College to learn public speaking skills, civics and legislative drafting.

NYC Parks Seeking Lifeguards

This is one of the best jobs in New York City and a guaranteed way to be in top physical condition while helping to keep millions of New Yorkers safe.

Parks' beaches are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and the pools are open from late June through Labor Day. Lifeguards work 48 hours each week and first-year lifeguards will earn a minimum of $13.57 an hour, for a weekly salary of over $650.00.
