Fixing the Budget Crisis

Looking at the hard numbers, we cannot ignore the fact that new York State has a budget crisis.  We have to make some hard choices in the coming months and years.  In November and December, as we worked to pass a Deficit Reduction Plan, I argued strongly that we should make those choices responsibly and strategically – for example, I worked to preserve programs that brought in millions of dollars of federal stimulus funds, I argued against cutting school budgets mid-year because I believed that sudden cuts would undermine kids’ education, and I prioritized spending that would save

Recognizing Outstanding Achievement By Two William Smith College Coaches

Geneva - Senator Mike Nozzolio recently honored two Hobart & William Smith athletic coaches for their records of achievement. Senator Nozzolio presented New York State Senate Resolutions to Pat Genovese of Geneva who was recently inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Sally Scatton of Trumansburg who will be inducted into the National Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame in January.

Funding For Greene County Pop Warner Announced

CATSKILL, 12/12/09 – Joined by players, coaches and families, Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that the 2009-2010 state budget includes, at his request, a $5,000 senate grant toward new equipment and lighting for the Greene County Pop Warner Football league.

“The senate funding will help improve the football experience for our young men and women,” said Senator Seward.  “For many of these athletes this is their first opportunity to take part in organized athletics, a step along what can be a very rewarding path.”

Senator Klein hosted his 15th Annual Bronx Christmas Tree Lighting

 

NEW YORK- Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester) was joined by student choirs from P.S. 83 and St. Lucy’s Grammar School, community leaders, and a special guest from the north pole for his 15th Annual Bronx Christmas Tree Lighting. The crowd enjoyed holiday music, hot cocoa and free treats.
