SENATOR MARTINS: PORT WASHINGTON EAGLE SCOUTS HONORED BY STATE SENATE

     Senator Jack M. Martins (R-Mineola) announced that the New York State Senate recently passed legislative resolutions he sponsored honoring four Port Washington residents for attaining the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

     The legislative resolutions honored Vincent Deriu (Troop 7), Bryan Johns (Troop 7), Justin May (Troop 241), and Nicholas Moy (Troop 241) for earning Scouting’s highest honor. With passage of the legislative resolutions, Vincent, Bryan, Justin, and Nicholas’ achievements will forever be part of the official record of the New York State Senate.

The Legislative Gazette: Lawmakers want new pet owners to get care instructions

A new Pet Care Instruction bill that would require pet dealers in New York state to provide pet buyers with instructions about small animal care was passed by the Senate on Tuesday and is awaiting action in the Assembly. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Tony Avella, D-Whitestone, and Assemblywomen Linda Rosenthal, D- Manhattan.

Senate Passes Venditto Legislation to Protect Nail Salon Workers and Consumers

The New York State Senate today passed legislation (S5966), sponsored by Senator Michael Venditto (R-C-I, Massapequa), that would foster a safe and healthy environment for both nail salon workers and consumers. This bill provides the necessary tools to close down unlicensed or uninsured nail salon activities, creates a formalized trainee program for those employed in nail salons, and requires nail salon owners to provide health and safety protections for their employees.

Hero First Responders Honored By The State Senate

Four members of the Nunda Fire Department Awarded New York State Senate Liberty Medal

 

ALBANY – Four member of the Nunda Fire Department who went above and beyond the call of duty in saving the lives of three community members were honored this week as the State Senate passed resolutions designating them as recipients of the New York State Senate Liberty Medal. Nunda Fire Department Chief Robert Walker, First Assistant Chief Travis Rawleigh, First Lieutenant Travis Deiter and Truck Captain Steve Gelser were each honored for their efforts to rescue three victims from an early morning fire on March 27, 2015, at a home on Parker Road in Portage.

Keeping Our College Campuses Safe

Our colleges and universities are supposed to provide safe, secure environments that foster personal growth and academic excellence.  But cases of rape, sexual assault, dating violence and other crimes continue to occur each year on college campuses throughout the nation.    

My colleagues and I in the State Senate are taking a leadership role in the effort to combat these outrageous crimes, and to protect every student from harm.  

After working closely with victim’s rights advocates, law enforcement professionals, legal experts and higher education professionals,  we have developed a comprehensive approach designed to make every college and university campus throughout New York State as safe and secure as possible.

Senate Passes Legislation To Protect Good Samaritans Who Rescue Children Locked In Cars

Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with his Senate colleagues to pass legislation (S240), sponsored by Senator Jack Martins (7th Senate District), that would help protect children who become trapped inside an overheated car. Under the legislation, Good Samaritans who forcibly enter a car to rescue a child locked inside are immune from liability.

This legislation would allow an individual to legally break a window or forcibly enter a parked car without liability if there is a reasonable belief that these actions would assist a child under the age of eight years old who would suffer harm if not immediately removed from the vehicle.
