Senator Farley Participates in Malta Avenue School Ribbon Cutting

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of participating in the Malta Avenue Elementary School Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Sept. 3rd. Part of the Ballston Spa School District, the building was recently restored and renovated. Senator Farley, pictured third from the left, was pleased to tour the building, view historical displays, and look at children’s projects.

Senator Farley Salutes NAMI-Schenectady

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I – Schenectady) had the pleasure of attending NAMI-Schenectady’s annual picnic in Central Park, Schenectady, on September 4th. NAMI Schenectady is affiliated with NAMI NYS (naminys.org) and NAMI National( nami.org). According to the local organization’s website, “We are family members and friends of someone with a brain disorder (also called mental illness) Originally, more than 30 years ago, a group of parents in Schenectady founded a support group to help one another cope with the effects of a family member's devastating mental illness. The Schenectady Relatives Group became incorporated as AMI-Schenectady in January 1988.

Senator Klein & Bronx Chamber of Commerce Host First Bronx H.I.R.E. Job Fair

BRONX, NY – Senator Klein, along with the Bronx Chamber of Commerce and local elected officials, hosted the first Bronx H.I.R.E. job fair at Hutchinson Metro Center Wednesday night, drawing more than 400 job seekers. Attendees were given an opportunity to connect with Bronx-based employers - big and small - that are currently hiring.

Bronx H.I.R.E (Help Identify Real Employment) is a unique jobs program aimed at connecting Bronx workers with real jobs through a comprehensive, direct approach developed by Senator Klein’s office and the Bronx Chamber of Commerce. The Bronx H.I.R.E. program, announced in July, is made possible through a $200,000 grant secured by Senator Klein in this year's state budget.

PAWLING – The community continues to contribute to help a Vietnam War veteran in town rehabilitate his home.

A barbecue fundraiser was held Thursday afternoon at the Pawling firehouse in honor of Daniel Flanigan. The event was billed as, “Welcome Home Private Dan Flanigan.”

SENATOR GIPSON’S STATEMENT ON DROP IN PENSION COSTS TO LOCALITIES

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – New York State Senator Terry Gipson (D-Dutchess, Putnam), Ranking Member of the State Senate's Local Government Committee, issued the following statement on New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli’s announcement that pension costs for state and local governments will decrease by approximately nine percent.

“As a former local official and Ranking Member of the State Senate's Local Government Committee, I commend Comptroller DiNapoli and his office for their efforts to ensure New York’s pension fund is performing for its retirees while bringing needed relief to local governments. Our cash-strapped municipalities will welcome this drop in costs, but it’s important that we bring more stability to these costs in the future. These pension savings can also help deliver property tax savings for homeowners.

Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department Gets Updated Communications & Response System

BRONX, NY - State Senator Jeff Klein (D-Bronx/Westchester), joined by Chief James Jones, Jr. and Lieutenant Joseph Raneri of the Edgewater Park Volunteer Fire Department, announced Monday that the Edgewater Park Volunteer Hose Co. No. 1 will receive a $50,000 state grant to update its emergency communications system. The announcement was made at the annual Edgewater Park Labor Day Olympics Medal Ceremony on Labor Day afternoon.
