STATEMENT FROM SENATOR JACK M. MARTINS

"Last night, Long Islanders said ‘goodbye’ to the Nassau Coliseum in a very appropriate way; by having one of our own, the iconic Billy Joel, perform the final concert. Being chosen as the Coliseum’s closing act is yet another honor for a man who is legendary in both his talent as a musician and his generosity in giving back to our community.

There is one more tribute New York State should give the Piano Man; renaming a portion of Route 107 in his hometown of Hicksville ‘Billy Joel Boulevard.’ While the Senate has passed this legislation, some Assemblymembers refuse to allow it to be considered by the Chamber because they feel such an honor should only be granted posthumously. It’s a shame that they have held this up.

Senator Gallivan's Online Survey

I am working hard in the State Senate on the important issues affecting our area, especially improving our schools, delivering meaningful property tax relief, sustaining our agricultural industry, supporting our sportsmen, working to protect your Second Amendment Rights and helping New York’s businesses succeed, grow and create new jobs.

This last session we worked to enact an on-time budget without raising taxes and kept spending growth below two percent. We rolled up our sleeves and worked in a bi-partisan way to help all New Yorkers realize a stronger, brighter and more prosperous future.

I’m looking forward to continuing to spend time throughout our district hearing from citizens and business owners directly. If you have any questions, please call me at 716-656-8544.
