Sen. Espaillat, Environmental Activists Demonstrate Against Dumping of Untreated Sewage into Hudson River and Call for Better Notification System to Protect the Public

State Senator Adriano Espaillat (D – Manhattan/Bronx) called for an end to the disturbing practice of dumping untreated sewage waste, even in extenuating circumstances. Sen. Espaillat, joined by environmental activists following a major accident at the North River Wastewater Treatment Plant and the ensuing dumping of millions of gallons of untreated sewage into the Hudson River, also called for better notification systems to alert the public in emergency cases where the quality of New York waterways has been compromised.

Creating New Jobs At Aqueduct: Majority Hosts Public Prentation On Getting Proposal For Aqueduct Racino

The Senate Majority Conference will host the state Division of Lottery (DOL) today for a presentation viewable to the public regarding the proposal by Genting, an international firm recommended by DOL, to develop and operate Aqueduct racino. Genting has pledged $380 million to the state for Aqueduct rights. The firm has also submitted a robust job creation plan – a priority of the Democratic Majority – including a focus on partnering with minority and women owned businesses. This is the first time a proposal like this has been open for public viewing, and can be seen today at 1PM online at http://www.livestream.com/nysenate

 On Monday, August 9th, Senator Adams harnessed technology to provide a video conference and internet livestream of Genting New York's development proposal for Aqueduct Racetrack.

Genting New York was recommended to Governor Paterson by the New York Lottery as the corporation to develop the Aqueduct project. Genting will present its proposal to Senator Adams and racing stakeholders.
