STATE SENATE PASSES BILL TO HOLD LANDLORDS ACCOUNTABLE FOR UNPAID REAL ESTATE TAXES

Senator John A. DeFrancisco announced today that the New York State Senate has passed his bill (S552) that would authorize public welfare officials to withhold rent from landlords who have not paid their real estate taxes.  The bill would give broad discretion to the Department of Social Services.

Senator O'Brien supports reservists, National Guard members

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Ted O’Brien today announced that the State Senate passed an amendment to the real property tax law that would allow local governments to grant a 5 percent tax reduction to long-term veterans of the National Guard or any of the reserve branches of the United States Military. Senator O'Brien voted yes on the measure.

Senate Passes Measure To Encourage Environmentally Friendly Home Building

The New York State Senate today passed legislation to encourage the building of more “green” homes by creating a property tax exemption. The bill (S1710), sponsored by Senator Mark Grisanti (R-I, North Buffalo), would help increase demand for environmentally friendly housing by allowing local municipalities to offer a real property tax exemption of 35 percent for a maximum of 20 years.

Senator Flanagan: Washington Leaders Must Protect New York Taxpayers

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) is calling on congressional leaders to reject the “Double-Tax Plan” included in a federal budget proposal that would end the longstanding policy allowing taxpayers to deduct their state and local tax liability, including property taxes, from their federal taxes.  If approved by Congress and signed into law, this change would cost the average Long Island homeowner approximately $4,500 a year.

O'Brien, State Senate pass on-time budget

ALBANY, N.Y. – Senator Ted O’Brien announced today that he voted in favor of the 2013-14 state budget, as it was passed by the State Senate.  The budget included significant tax relief for middle class families and small businesses in addition to strategic investments to encourage job creation and economic development in the Monroe and Ontario County communities Senator O’Brien represents.

ALBANY, 03/27/13 -- State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) today commented on final senate approval of the 2013-14 state budget: 

“The final state budget meets my central budget priorities – control spending, cut taxes and create jobs.  The fiscally responsible plan keeps state spending below the same two-percent cap placed on school districts and local governments while providing significant tax breaks for middle class families, small businesses and manufacturers.  

“I’m particularly pleased with the school aid portion of the budget.   The vast majority of new money, almost $1 billion, will go to low and average wealth schools that need help the most.

State Senator Patty Ritchie is announcing a package of tax relief and reform measures aimed at providing a major economic boost to New York State’s middle class families.

Announced Monday, the 2013 Family Tax Relief Act would increase tax breaks for the middle class that have not kept pace with inflation, and in some instances, haven’t been adjusted for more than 25 years.  In addition, the act would restore STAR rebates that were eliminated in 2009.

Department of Financial Services to Speek Resolution of Insurance Claims in Areas Affected by SANDY

The NYS Department of Financial Services (DFS) is setting new rules to speed the processing of insurance claims in areas affected by Storm Sandy. The new regulation reduces the amount of time an insurer can delay its decision on a claim, and requires insurers to report to the Department on how many claims it is delaying and the reasons for the delays.
