SENATE PASSES LEGISLATION TO STRENGTHEN LAW ON TEXT MESSAGING WHILE DRIVING

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C, I - Schenectady) announced on May 3rd that he and his colleagues in the New York State Senate passed a bill (S.998B) that will make it easier for law enforcement to crack down on texting-while-driving offenses and prevent tragic accidents caused by drivers distracted by texting.

The bill would make text messaging while driving a primary violation rather than a secondary violation. Under the current law, a driver can only be cited for texting-while-driving if another violation, such as speeding, is also being cited.

Press Conference: SENATORS TO ANNOUNCE ACTION TO STRENGTHEN LAW AGAINST TEXTING WHILE DRIVING

Senators Carl Marcellino, Jim Alesi, Joe Robach and other members of the Senate Majority Conference, will hold a news conference regarding new legislation to strengthen the laws against texting while driving on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Room 332 of the Capitol.

They will be joined by members of the Assembly and a representative of the American Automobile Association to discuss the importance of enacting legislation to help law enforcement crack down on texting while driving to help prevent tragic auto accidents.

APA to ease permit process for ‘horizontal co-location’ of cell towers

RAY BROOK - The state Adirondack Park Agency wants to ease the permitting process for installing a second cell tower in a site that already has an APA-approved cell tower.

The agency's Regulatory Programs Committee got its first look Thursday at a draft general permit geared for the "horizontal co-location" of cell towers.

Duane tower caught in communication gap

DUANE — Adirondack Park Agency staff issued a permit for an 80-foot cell-phone tower in Duane that may not allow emergency officials to comply with international communication regulations.

And it seems to have come without the applicant's final review.

The Duane tower was in motion through APA when Verizon Wireless started looking to accommodate other carriers after a meeting with local officials and APA staff last month.
