BILL NUMBER:A10137 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend chapter 534 of the laws of 1993 amending the education law relating to physical therapy assistants, in relation to extending the effective date thereof PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To extend chapter 534 of the laws of 1993, due to expire June 30'h, for an additional 4 years. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Amends section 2 of chapter 534 of the laws of 1993 to extend the provisions of this chapter for an additional 4 years to June 30, 2014. JUSTIFICATION: Chapter 534 of the laws of 1993 authorized physical ther- apy assistants to provide services in home care settings. These services are allowed when the supervising physical therapist establishes a program of care for a patient, has an initial joint visit with the patient and the physical therapy assistant, periodically evaluates and treats such patient and provides a final evaluation to determine if the treatment plan should be terminated. CANESTRARI -- read once and referred to the Committee on Higher Education AN ACT to amend chapter 534 of the laws of 1993 amending the education law relating to physical therapy assistants, in relation to extending the effective date thereof THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. Section 2 of chapter 534 of the laws of 1993 amending the education law relating to physical therapy assistants, as amended by chapter 148 of the laws of 2006, is amended to read as follows: S 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall have become a law and shall remain in effect until June 30, [2010] 2014 on which date it shall be repealed. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD16259-01-0
