TITLE OF BILL: An act relating to reporting on the tuition assistance
program; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon expiration
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: Requires a report by the higher educa-
tion service corporation.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Section 1. Report on the tuition assist-
ance program. The president of the higher education services corporation
shall be submitted by February 15 of each year to the governor, the
temporary president of the senate, the minority leader of the senate,
the speaker of the assembly, the minority leader of the assembly, the
chair of senate finance committee, the chair of the assembly ways and
means committee and the chairs of higher education committees in both-
JUSTIFICATION: The passing of this bill will allow for the legislature
and the governor to have access to the TAP information. It will allow
for an analysis of the program and give the state the ability to see how
the recipients of TAP are utilizing the funding they receive. Today it
is most necessary to know how the funding for such a vital program as
TAP is being used.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: Nominal.
EFFECTIVE DATE: This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire
and be deemed repealed upon the submission of the report on February 15,
