TITLE OF BILL :
An act to amend the education law, in relation to directing the
commissioner to develop and conduct programs designed to prevent
suicide among youths
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL :
To amend the education law, in relation to directing the commissioner
to develop and conduct programs designed to prevent suicide among
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS :
The commissioner, in consultation with department of health; the
office of mental health, and the office of children and families
services shall develop and conduct training programs in the prevention
of suicide of youth for use by professional staff of all public and
private schools located in this state.
This will inform the professional staff of such schools that there are
available resources and training to them regarding the prevention of
suicide. These resources and training will assist the professional
staff to be able to inform and direct persons contemplating suicide on
how to understand and direct them resources for available help.

EFFECTIVE DATE :
This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding the
date on which it shall become law.
