BILL NUMBER: S867

TITLE OF BILL :
An act to authorize the city of Oneonta, in the county of Otsego, to
offer an optional twenty year retirement plan to fire chief Robert S.
Barnes


PURPOSE :
To make the benefits of section 384-d of the New York State and Local
Police and Fire Retirement System available to fire chief Robert
Barnes who, for reasons not ascribable to his own negligence, failed
to make a timely application to participate in such retirement plan.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS :
Section 1 allows the City of Oneonta to elect to reopen the optional
twenty year retirement plan (section 384-d) for fire chief Robert
Barnes.

Section 2 requires any past service cost associated with this election
to be paid by the City of Oneonta as a one-time payment.

Section 3 contains the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION :
This legislation is necessary to allow the City of Oneonta to reopen
the enrollment period for plan 384-d of the New York State and Local
Police and Fire Retirement System for fire chief Robert Barnes.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY :

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS :
The cost for any past service associated with this election shall be
paid by the City of Oneonta as a one-time payment.

EFFECTIVE DATE :
This act shall take effect immediately.
