2011-S2129 (ACTIVE) - Summary

Provides that, for purposes of veterans seeking to qualify for public housing, "probable annual aggregate income" shall not include disability benefits paid by federal government to veterans for service-connected disabilities; provides that such disability benefits shall not be included in computing any surcharge against such veterans.

AN  ACT to amend the public housing law, in relation to the exclusion of
  veterans' disability benefits from computation of income

  THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND  ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

   Section  1.    Section  156  of  the public housing law is amended by
adding a new subdivision 8 to read as follows:
   8.   FOR THE PURPOSES OF  THIS  SECTION,  PROBABLE  AGGREGATE  ANNUAL
INCOME SHALL NOT INCLUDE DISABILITY BENEFITS PAID BY THE FEDERAL GOVERN-
MENT  TO  A  VETERAN  FOR  A SERVICE-CONNECTED DISABILITY NOR SHALL SUCH
DISABILITY BENEFITS BE INCLUDED IN COMPUTING ANY SURCHARGE AGAINST  SUCH
VETERAN.
  S 2.  This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
