BILL NUMBER:S2174A

TITLE OF BILL:

An act
to amend the elder law, in relation to authorizing a pooled purchasing
program for certain services and commodities

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:

Adds a new subdivision 11 to section 203 of the elder law, to
authorize the state office for the aging to establish, operate,
coordinate, encourage the development of, and/or maintain, or to
contract for the operation of a pooled purchasing program for certain
services and commodities, including but not limited to liability and
vehicle insurance on behalf of entities, programs, and services for
the aging over which it has jurisdiction, oversight, or other
contractual relationship.

The ability to pool purchasing requests for automobile and liability
insurance should result in lower costs for those entities under the
jurisdiction of SOFA. Note that this does not require that SOFA
establish a pool, only that it help in the creation of such pool or
pools.

PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:

S.6964 - 2007-08 Referred to Aging, Committed to Rules
S.2026 - 2009-10 Referred to Aging, Committed to Rules

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
Subject to appropriations.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
Immediately.
