TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a certain portion
of state route 15A the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway"

PURPOSE:
This bill would designate a portion of State Route 15A, running within
the boundaries of the town of Lima in Livingston County as the "Lima
Veterans Memorial Highway".

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 342-xx
that designates the portion of state route 15a that runs through the
boundaries of the Town of Lima as the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway".

JUSTIFICATION:
The Town of Lima has a rich history of its residents serving the
United States in all of our nation's armed conflicts - at home or
abroad. Originally founded by Revolutionary War veterans, Lima's
residents bear a proud tradition of having participated in everyone
of our nation's major wars, from the town's Revolutionary War
inception to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. This
legislation is a tribute to their invaluable contribution to these
past and current struggles, and a way of expressing a special thanks
for their selfless courage and unfailing martial spirit.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
Immediately.

AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to  designating  a  certain
  portion of state route 15A the "Lima Veterans Memorial Highway"

  THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new  section  342-xx
to read as follows:
  S  342-XX.  PORTION  OF  STATE  HIGHWAY SYSTEM TO BE DESIGNATED AS THE
"LIMA VETERANS MEMORIAL  HIGHWAY".  THAT  PORTION  OF  STATE  ROUTE  15A
LOCATED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE TOWN OF LIMA, COUNTY OF LIVINGSTON,
A  DISTANCE  OF  APPROXIMATELY SIX AND TWO-TENTHS MILES, SHALL BE DESIG-
NATED AND KNOWN AS THE "LIMA VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY".
  S 2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the  instal-
lation  and  maintenance of adequate signing of the state highway system
as designated pursuant to section one of this  act.  However,  to  avoid
confusion  and  to limit any possible disruption of commerce, the desig-
nation called for pursuant to section one of this act shall  be  one  of
ceremonial  nature  and  the  official name of such highway shall not be
changed as a result of this act.
  S 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
