BILL NUMBER:S4431 TITLE OF BILL: An act to amend the state law, in relation to making sweet corn the state vegetable PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL: To establish sweet corn as the official vegetable of New York state. SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS: Amends the State law by adding a new section 89 designating sweet corn as the official vegetable of the state of New York. JUSTIFICATION: Sweet corn is one of the leading agricultural produce in the state of New York producing $70 Million in cash receipts in 2005 and is the lead fresh produce vegetable sold in New York state. PRIOR LEGISLATIVE HISTORY: S.3919 of 2007/2008 S.4238 of 2009/2010 FISCAL IMPLICATIONS: None.

NOZZOLIO -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations AN ACT to amend the state law, in relation to making sweet corn the state vegetable THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The state law is amended by adding a new section 89 to read as follows: S 89. STATE VEGETABLE. SWEET CORN SHALL BE THE OFFICIAL VEGETABLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK. S 2. This act shall take effect immediately. EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. LBD00785-01-1
