BILL NUMBER:S4442A

TITLE OF BILL:
An act
to authorize Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc. to file an
application for a real property tax exemption

PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To grant the town assessor for the town of Islip the authority to
exempt the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc, a
not-for-profit organization, from liability for payment of real
property taxes due on the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 assessment roll.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section One authorizes and directs the assessor of the town of Islip
to accept an application from the Victims Information Bureau of
Suffolk, Inc, for exemption from real property taxes pursuant to
Section 420-a of the real property tax law for the assessment roll as
completed in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 for their property located in
Islandia. Upon satisfaction that the Victims Information Bureau of
Suffolk, Inc would have otherwise been entitled to said exemption,
the assessor may grant this exemption from all taxation beginning
with respect to this roll. If exemption is granted, the Victims
Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc may be refunded any taxes paid and
any taxes, fines, penalties, liens or interest unpaid may be
cancelled through the sole discretion of the town board.
Section Two is the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
The Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc. purchased their
property on 185 Oval Drive in Islandia 11749 after the taxable status
date for the 2009-2010 assessment roll. This bill would authorize the
assessor of the town of Islip to accept application from the Victims
Information Bureau of Suffolk for exemption from real property taxes
pursuant to Section 420-a of the real property tax law for the
2009-2010 and 2010-2011 assessment rolls.

LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
New bill.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None to the State.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately.
